CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Henderson County served approximately 121 children in 2011. These are children who end up in the Court System as an abused or neglected child. The court must decide the fate of the child. Each child is assigned a CASA. This CASA is a volunteer.  They are not paid.  This advocate works with the System to ensure the safety of the child. This advocate files a report to the Court with recommendations.  Based on information submitted by the child's CASA, the Court must make a decision on what is in the child's best interest.  It could be the child is removed from their home with parents and placed with relatives, in Foster care, or even placed up for adoption.  The main goal of the CASA volunteer is to find a safe, permanent home for the child.  Th...

Wells Fargo instructs the sellers and their agent to just get an offer.  They WILL work the short sale. So, the sellers accept a fair offer.  Just a few thousand less than the recent Wells Fargo appraisal. Contract is sent to Wells Fargo for short sale approval. I do believe that all short sale negotiators should be paid on commission.  I have not found one that seemed to care about their asset or the work involved by all in getting the home to closing. The short sale negotiator at Wells Fargo (and believe me I want to mention his stupid name) but won't, changes the terms of the contract...he is OK with the sales price, but the sellers have agreed to pay $3100 in buyer closing costs and he changes it to $2100.  Along with reducing the real estate commission by a percentage point,  There...

It was May 29, 2009 at 4:15 pm I was rushing to Beech Lake Park for Henderson County Annual Relay for Life. I had been rushing around all day, errands and baking desserts I finally got a shower and on my way.   When I arrived at the park it was full of teams, tents and aroma. Shirley, Keith and Tommy did a fabulous job at setting up our booth. Kathy from Meo Mio's Cajun Restaurant was there with Red Beans and Rice and Gumbo. We sold chances for a house with no attached mortgage, insurance or taxes (some think it's on the small side), we also had a table of  items for chance including a remote control car, solar yard lights, purses, local business gift certificates just to name a few. We were very successful with these raising money for Relay.       Shirley, (my broker), who is a breast ...

Last Friday night was our first experience at the Relay event at Beech Lake in Lexington, TN. The community support was amazing as thousands showed up.  Lots of good food and entertainment. We were a rookie team.  Not knowing what to expect.  Our learnings from the event: 1.  Lots of work.  Recruit more team members next year.  2.  If you are serving food, get there earlier and plan to serve the dinner crowd.  At around 10:00 most call it a night. 3.  Develop a list of things to sell and raise more money during the event. 4.  Make it fun.  Play games, scavenger hunts, music, etc. 5.  Prizes you give away shouldn't be won by anyone in your company. Sorry team. 6.  Plan more inspirational and motivational messages.  Never forget why you're there. 7.   Pack a coat.  The lake wind....brrrrr...

Relay for Life are 3 words that I was not familiar with 5 years ago. When I moved to Lexington, TN I would see Relay for Life team signs all over town with events all year long to raising money to donate for this all important cause of finding a Cure for Cancer. It was 2007 when I joined the Coldwell Banker McKee Realty RfL team. The year starts the first of June~any given year and ends the last Friday of May beginning at 5 p.m. and goes till 5 a.m. I did not know what to expect for my first all nighter since I was a teenager (or had a new born) but let me tell you I was overwhelmed with the turnout from our community and we had so much fun! Well it's that time of year again for Henderson County, today is Relay for Life relay night. When I left the office yesterday Keith said "Make sure...

It's funny to me how we get up every morning, go through a routine fall back in bed at the end of the day and get up the next day and do it again and years go by without much notice. Depending on the stage of life we are in the routines vary; it might be college time for some, career, significant other, children and family. All  through life we are presented with choices, sometimes we know exactly what to do and the exact outcome we want and other times situations come from left field and turns everything upside down to a different path. This is what happened to our family. Married for a few years my daughter was 3 and my son 6 months, and we found out that my mom needed a quadruple bypass. She had an excellent surgeon but she never completely recovered from this procedure and unfortuna...

Since I am a Realtor in Henderson County, TN I am all over the county looking at and showing property, we are an active family who are involved in many activities which take us all around the county. Since we get busy with what is in our immediate circle of life it's easy to forget how much goes on in our communities and what goes into a county and I wanted to know more about what makes Henderson County, Tennessee tick so I applied to participate in the Henderson County Leadership Program supported through the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce. I have since been selected to participate in the Henderson County Leadership Program. This program was implemented in 1996 as a part of the Governor's Three Star Community Award Initiative. I have not been involved in anything like this until...

Pretty scary isn't it. As American support began to diminish for the stimulus package.....plunging to a mere 37%, the rush was on to get a Congressional vote. Do you realize this loan is enough to give every person in America $3000?  Pretty astonishing. I think at this point, most of us are pretty skeptical.  Wall Street certainly was not a supporter of the package as evidenced by the 381 point decline today. Guess it's a wait and see.  A make or break America.  Earned trust for this Congress and this President. We've seen most of the first $350 million of this package squandered.  From bonuses, new jets, retreats, even last week a Vegas vacation in a 5-star hotel for AIG, GM, and many others who accepted taxpayer money.  Most of us are HOPEFUL.  Most of us agree that something had to b...

The movie, Picture Perfect, is a light romantic comedy that features Jennifer Aniston as an advertising executive. She creates a marketing campaign for "Gulden's Mustard". In the film the Gulden's tagline becomes "#2 and that ain't bad". The campaign features famous people who have come in second. One of these people was Cindy Crawford who according to the movie came in second in her class at STANFORD! Therefore she was considered to be "#2 and that ain't bad" especially since she is still one of the most beautiful woman in the world. Today's mindset for so many people is that #2 is just the first loser. That the only winners in the world are the one's that come in first place. Many give little if any credit for participation or beating out the rest of the competition. In most cases we ...

My Dad has been pretty sick the last few weeks.  A stroke several years ago has left him very fragile. I visited him at the hospital today.  As the doctors struggle to find the right medication to help him fight the infection from pneumonia, he lay there in a coma. I sat bedside just staring at him.  Thankful that he is my DAD.  So proud of him.  How much I have learned from him over the years.  How many times he has said to me "You can do it"!  Dad has always been a risk taker.  Starting his business in the 50's when times were just as uncertain.  My Dad was an awesome TV salesperson and repairman.  I can still remember when color TV pictures hit the market. Everybody we knew wanted to replace their old black and white TV's.   We were rich.....or so we thought.  My Mom got a new stove,...

Curly's Kids is an organization started several years ago by Curly Freeman.  Curly's Kids is a group of caring adults who move heaven and earth to make sure children have a brighter Christmas.  That they receive at least one present.  Can you see little one with that big ole smile when the gifts are delivered.  Quite a sight! Curly's Kids goal this year was to help 30 children.  Would you believe the total number was 50. It just goes to show what a giving and caring community we have here in Lexington, TN. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. And for those of you considering a move in 2009.....don't make a decision without checking out Henderson County, TN.   Truly a place to make home.
