The downtown condo craze has spread from Nashville all the way down I-24 to Murfreesboro. Plans have been presented by a California-based development firm to build a six story tall building in downtown Murfreesboro that would include 46 condos, a three-level parking garage, and 8,850 square feet of commercial space. Majestic Development, the development firm, paid $550,000 in 2006 for the property at 315 W. Main Street. The building located on the site collapsed during a thunderstorm last year. Majestic has chosen Nashville-based Gresham Smith and Partners to develop the building's design. The picture below is similar to the industrial style building that has been proposed.  11/12/2007

As the housing market in Middle Tennessee softens, the states largest home builder announced staff cuts last week. Ole South Properties, which has nine communities in Rutherford county, is cutting its staff from 33 to 25 as the demand for new homes has fallen. According to an interview with the Daily News Journal, Ole South had plans to build up to 700 homes a year but they expect the actual number of units built this year to be in the high 500s. Housing permits in Murfreesboro alone have declined by over 34 percent compared to last year. County-wide, the number of permits is down nearly 17 percent as compared to this time in 2006. The sky is falling, if you listen to the news media. The fact is there are only about seven states that are hard hit and the majority of THAT comes from two states, Florida and California. Things are really taking shape in the ‘Boro. The weather is BEAUTIFUL and the building continues. The Avenue is coming right along with shops in the new mall beginning to open. The last time I checked, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Best Buy, On Broadway, and a couple of other stores had opened. Romano’s Macaroni Grill looks like it might open soon and the Longhorn Steakhouse looks like it is already open. I’ll check it out again and let you know. The new Publix out on Highway 96 in west Murfreesboro has opened. I went shopping there this afternoon and it was very nice! I took a ride out to the Marymont Springs development to see how it is progressing and found that the Enclave section is ready for houses. The Enclave is the section for the million dollar and up homes. It is a very nice area with mature trees all around and a rolling landscape. Development of the remaining sections continue. I sat through a presentation about the Bible Park USA project and found it very interesting. The park is a controversial development in west Murfreesboro mainly because a Daily News Journal reporter who lives in the area continues to write about it. Publix opened their first store in Tennessee that was built from the ground up in the Spring of 2005 on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna.  Since that time, it seems that residents here are all buzzing about the Publix stores and anticipating the opening of additional Publix stores in the near future.  In December two Bi-Low grocery stores closed in Murfreesboro.  These two stores are currently being renovated and will soon be reopened as Publix stores in Murfreesboro. The Daily News Journal has reported that a large food plant may be coming to Murfreesboro.  Public hearings are scheduled for April 4 and 5 at Murfreesboro City Hall.  The plant would be located on 53.6 acres of land near Joe B. Jackson Parkway.The as-yet-unnamed company would be investing $70 million and construction would start on the plant in May or June.   It's expected that a plant this size would create 160 jobs with the "average wage for 130 of those jobs at $21 per hour" according to the paper.Sounds like a great opportunity for the area and we welcome those folks who may be moving in from out of state!  I've had some recent inquiries from folks looking to move in the area for similar reasons, and as always would encourage anyone looking to move to the Rutherford County area to ... 03/02/2007
