Oak Ridge, Tennessee is a great place for music opportunities, such as lessons, participation in school orchestras and bands, community orchestra and band. Oak Ridge has a symphony orchestra that is excellent. Check out www.orcma.com for many of the musical offerings in the city. I think you will be surprised at all this smaller (about 28,000) community has to offer.

WALL TO WALL SPACIOUSNESS all on one level. This 4 years young home features a large kitchen with cherry cabinets-and plenty of them-hardwoods in Great Room and Office/Sunroom, upgraded light fixtures, large windows throughout, and built in vanities in two of the bedrooms. The level yard has curbed edging for ease of gardening and mowing. Buyers or buyers' agent should verify square footage.

Oak Ridge has many beautiful places to go and things to do so I thought I would highlight the two golf courses here.Oak Ridge Country Club has been serving Anderson/Roane country area for over 50 years. Opened in 1947, ORCC has seen many changes, the latest major change was in 1996 when the course re-open to a Robert Cupp design. Located on Gum Hollow road in Oak Ridge Tennessee, ORCC sits on the extreme eastern edge of Roane county.Nature has blessed East Tennessee with an so much natural beauty.  My favorite is the rolling hills of the City of Oak Ridge.  Over 50 years ago scientists moved to Oak Ridge for the Manhattan Project.  That place is the Oak Ridge Country Club.  The golf course is an 18 hole championship design.                                                      Golfers ha...

I went to the Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday where Brunning & Stang announced the construction of a new active adult community, Centennial Bluff. The dwellings will be like condos or apartments, in 3-5 stories buildings with elevators and covered parking. They will start in price in the low $200's, with the smallest unit being about 1,100 square feet. The HOA fees will be about $175 per month, but they plan to have a whole community of activities and clubs. It sounds like a great lifestyle. They don't have their website up yet.

Ed Wescott photo taken the day Oak Ridge, Tennessee learned that World War II had ended.  The people had only recently learned of the historic role the "Secret City"  had played in the winning of  World War II.  A World War II Secret CityOak Ridge was created in 1942 as a major site of the "Manhattan Project," a massive wartime effort which produced the world's first atomic weapons. Beginning in late 1942 the United States Army Corps of Engineers acquiried more than 60,000 acres.  The area met military requirements because it was isolated, accessible by highway and rail and both water and electricity were readily available. A city and three manufacturing plants were constructed to develop the technology that ended the war. Prefabricated modular homes, apartments, and dormitories, many...

So you think your Dell XP 10,000 BLT special is pretty speedy??If you line it up against Oak Ridge National Laboratories newly upgraded "Jaguar" supercomputer that runs at 54 teraflops, or 54 trillion mathematical calculations per second you'll get left in the dust so fast you won't even have time to blink. Oak Ridge National Labs (or ORNL as we know it locally) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee,  just doubled the speed of their super computer by hooking up 54 Cray XT3 supercomputers to run in tandum making their computer the fifth fastest in the world. http://tinyurl.com/pwlwtI actually got to visit the computer room last year when it was crawling at the snail's pace of ‘only' 25 teraflops. The room where the boxes were housed took up about 10,000 square feet and had their own refrigeration (not...
