Sign up soon, because the event is usually sold out! Under the big tent in the Sam's Club parking lot is where you will find hundreds of shoppers making purchases and finding bargains from dozens of Addison residents selling their unwanted items.  Although the event officially opens at 8:00 am to the public, savvy shoppers arrive at dawn when the locals set up and unload their boxes and trunks.  Addison, Texas residents can also recycle old computers and peripheral devices in the p...

Addison Texas Real Estate Sales were up 13% in August 2012 over the same month last year with 136 homes selling this month! For the year to date, overall home sales were at 980 homes sold, a 28% change from last year. The Texas home market for the first quarter 2012 in the DFW Metroplex is overall improved over the last year. With both prices and interest rates at historic lows, this is an idea time to purchase for both new home owners and current home owners moving to larger homes. It is key to have your financing and prequalification work in process to insure a smooth transaction. As the spring begins and school ends more homes with be put on the market and more prospective buyer will be looking for homes. Traditionally the second and third quarters are the busiest in the real estate ...

Need Another Reason To Love Living In Addison, Texas? There are so many amenities provided by the Town of Addison, like the first class Addison Athletic Club, the superior "can do" attitude of the town employees, and the Addison events (Kaboom Town, Taste Addison, Oktoberfest to name a few), but if you want just one more, here it is: Addison's Fire Department annual smoke detector battery replacement program. To participate in this event, call the fire department at 972-450-7228 to schedule a day and time in October. You must be home during the visit by the firefighters. Like many children, I remember looking up in the sky and seeing planes flying over head. My father was in the Air Force and each year the base would have an Air Show. Again, we would marvel at the aircraft and watch the Thunderbirds do their high-speed precision maneuvers. I joined the Air Force in 1979 and had flown as a crew member but never had the chance to pilot an aircraft. Over the past couple of months, I’ve been thinking about flying again. No good reason other than it’s a “bucket list” item and I’m not getting any younger. As I researched the topic, I found that most private pilot schools offer a “Discovery Flight” allowing a prespective student pilot the chance to “sit in the left seat” and pilot a small aircraft. A quick phone call and I was ready to go. I arrived at Monarch...

If you live in Addison, Texas and would like a FREE night at the theater, read on! Addison's WaterTower Theatre is offering you an opportunity to see the next production, The Mystery of Irma Vep on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 7:30 p.m for FREE. This comedy, by playwright Charles Ludlum, was the most produced play in the United States in 1991; and in 2003, it became the longest-running play ever produced in Brazil. Two actors portray eight characters, so this will be a quick-change marathon behind the scenes for costume changes. The play is a send-up of Victorian melodramas, farce and cinema, and is filled with literary references, particularly to William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and the Brontë sisters; and classic films like Wuthering Heights, Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, and The Mumm...

Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Police Chief Davis spoke to us about the newly formed Addison Citizens Assisting Police program (ACAP). Here are some interesting tidbits from Chief Davis's presentation: This program started about one month ago. The police are recruiting people who live or work in Addison for the program. Addison's biggest crime problem is theft from motor vehicles. Theives used to steal radios from cars. Now they're lifting GPS systems, purses, golf clubs, laptops, anything that is visible and worth something. Most of these thefts occur during the day. ACAP volunteers will drive through parking lots and garages and will ...

You've heard of the "dog days of summer" but now the Town of Addison is putting a twist on the phrase. The outdoor pool at the Addison Athletic Club closed (for humans) on Labor Day.  However, the annual doggy splash day will be held on Saturday morning, September 8th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. If you are an Addison resident with a membership card to the AAC (one-time $10 fee for as long as you live in town), come out and support the dogs! All participating dogs must have a 2011 or 2012 rabies tag or proof of vaccination. The fee is $5 per dog. Humans will not be allowed to swim.

Saying Goodbye to an Addison, Texas Landmark. Village on the Parkway, known originally as Sakowitz Village, is getting an extreme makeover. The cornerstone of the shopping center located on the southeast corner of Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway is the two-story structure that once housed the Sakowitz department store and most recently, a Bed Bath & Beyond. But starting tomorrow, the landmark building is coming down. Redevelopment is slated to begin on September 4th, with the demolition of the former Bed Bath & Beyond building. In its place, a new, 35,000 square foot Whole Foods Market will rise, with a completion date expected in summer 2013. Since it's only 3 miles from the store on Coit and Belt Line in Ricahrdson, the Coit location will close when the Addison store opens...

Addison Pacesetters Take Time for Tea. One of the many benefits of living in Addison, Texas, is the famous Addison Athletic Club (AAC), which is free to Addison residents (after a one-time $10 processing fee) for as long as they live in Addison. For AAC members 50 years of age and beyond, the club offers a variety of activities beyond the exercise facilities. This 50+ group is known as the Addison Pacesetters. There is a tea scheduled once a month. It’s a fun social hour and a great way to meet your Addison neighbors. I attended this month's tea and had a great time! These are a few of this month's participants and some of the delicious treats: According to Deena Atkinson, the event (and Pacesetter) coordinator, "tea is a fashionable and trendy way to carve out some meaningful time with...
