It is no news that the housing industry in Central Texas has suffered as a result of the recession but has recently shown signs of stabilizing. Not only have there been signs of the housing market stabilizing, but many economists feel that it could be turning the corner to recovery soon. Unfortunately, there has been a lull in new home construction in Texas and across the country as a result of the housing market collapse. Central Texas cities saw a 6 percent decrease in permits issued for new homes for the 12-month period that ended in September, according to the Houston-based Bohlke Consulting Group. The Bohlke group tracks more than two dozen areas and in 17 of those areas there was a noted permit activity decline. Areas such as Leander and Liberty Hill saw a double-digit decrease in ...

Good news for Williamson County residents - there will not be an increase in property taxes next year. At their August 31st meeting, Williamson County Commissioners voted to not raise property taxes in Williamson County. Property values have fallen across the county which means that more than half of homeowners will actually see a decrease in their property taxes next year. The current tax rate is 48.99 cents per $100 of property value. Over the past year the average home value has decreased by an average of $3,500, which will result in a drop of about $17 on the tax bill according to county estimates. County Judge Dan A. Gattis said that home values have fallen for 62 percent of Williamson county's homeowners. Originally, the County Commissioners had proposed a higher tax rate of 52.25 ...

Many home buyers in Williamson County think that they could never afford the price of building a new home, and therefore never consider it. However, with mortgage rates at all-time lows, buyers are seeing more potential and ease in building their own custom home over buying a previously lived-in home. There is a great amount of potential and benefit in building a new home, and home buyers should take that into considerations before finalizing their decision. Benefits to Building Your Own Home: Customization: No need to continue to look at all those Cedar Park homes on the market that have a majority of what you are looking for in a home but just missing that one thing. Most builders will allow you to customize your new home to have all the designs and amenities that you are looking for....

To many, the term "K2" is foreign, but the word is rapidly spreading across the country, and more and more parents are becoming familiar with it. K2 (also known as Spice) is one of the many brand names of a chemical substance that is marketed as legal marijuana. K2 is meant to be used as incense, but it is the new method teens are using to get high, and it is perfectly legal in many areas of the country, including Cedar Park. This synthetic marijuana is not detectable on a drug test, making it even more appealing to teens. However, Cedar Park City Council members are currently considering taking action to ban this drug.K2  is a mixture of herbal spice plants that is sprayed with a synthetic compound similar to THC and  can be harmful. Symptoms parents can be on the lookout for are a fas...

Exposed Nails and Asphalt Shingles - Inspection Picture of the Day I had the pleasure of conducting a New Construction Home Inspection this morning in Cedar Park, Texas.  While up on the roof I found 2 nails that were exposed.  Incredibly that number - 2 - is on the low side.  On most Home Inspections I conduct there are many more! Normally fasteners that are driven into a 3 Tab Fiberglass shingles are covered up by the next row of shingles.  In this case the installer drove the fastener just a little too low.  It happens all the time and that's OK.  But, shingle manufactures state in their installation manuals that fasteners MUST NOT be exposed.  When a nail or fastener is driven into a shingle it actually creates a hole in your home.  I know....it's a small hole but a hole nonetheless...
