"The Gateway to the Texas Hill Country," Dripping Springs has rolling hills, rock bottom creeks, and beautiful wild life. Dripping Springs is located about 30 miles west of Austin on Highway 290. It is a quite little town of about 1,500 people. Dripping Springs was named after a natural spring, and was a popular gathering place for the Tonkawa Indians. The springs are located near the end of Mercer Street. It is a beautiful site and worth the time to stop in and visit. Dripping Springs is also famous for its Bar-B-Que. The Salt Lick Restaurant is world renowned and has been featured on many television shows, and just recently on "Man Versus Food." In the census of 2000, Dripping Springs reported a population of 1,548 inhabitants and 554 households, and among them 418 families. The population density of Dripping Springs was 468.07 people per square mile at the time of the census, and the city currently has an area of 3.3 square miles, all of it land. 41% of the households in Dripping Springs have children under the age of 18 living at home, and 61% include married couples. Well it's official...Rooster Springs and Walnut Springs, both new elementary schools in the Dripping Springs ISD, earned the ratings of Exemplary in 2008. That is great news for this up and coming school district.  Logic would have it that great ratings begin in elementary school.  So we would expect as time goes on and these kids move to Middle School and then to High School, we'll be seeing an entire shift in the school ratings.
