Yesterday, I heard a noise that I had not heard in a long time. It was a lawnmower hard at work.  Astounding.  It is for us in South Texas as we have been so drought plagued this year we have not had to mow our lawns in weeks.  While that may be a good thing, the looks of the lawns is not.  Most are dying and have become sparse.  So when it rained last week it was a very welcome sight for all of us.    Then the sound of lawnmowers began again.  We hope that sound continues a lot in the future because we NEED the RAIN so badly. Wilson and all the surrounding counties are being plagued by the lack of rain in the number of fires that are occurring.  The roads are dotted with burned patches.  With every burned patch you see there is a story.   Someone was careless and started a fire.  Then ... 10/04/2011

Phillip Viapond had his Grand Opening for his new location at 2840 Business Loop 181 N in Floresville on Friday, August 26, 2011.   His Builders Flooring Design Gallery moved locations and was joined by the other tenants in the 181 Business Center building to celebrate his new location.  Keller Williams Realty Heritage~~Total Edge Team, Jordan Builders, Southwest Funding and Wildhorse Energy hosted a customer appreciation night to coincide. The guests enjoyed a spread of food, beer and wine and a performance by Gary D. Floresville  to Welcome a Brand New Superintendent to Floresville ISD. New Superintendent Choice. As the new school year swiftly approaches and we prepare to send our most precious assets back to school, a lot of us are wondering who will be filling the void left by Dr. David Vinson's resignation. Who would the Floresville ISD Board of Directors choose to fill the position of Superintendent? Well today I had the opportunity to meet the lone finalist for the job.....Dr. Jerry Lee Hunkapiller. On a beautiful night in Texas, this past Saturday April 2,2011 theFloresville Chamber of Commerce held their annual Awards Banquet. The banquet was held at theFloresville Community Convention Center and was a great success for incoming Chamber President Susan Hodges and her team. For the past 6 year Dr. David Vinson has lead the Floresville Independent School District as Superintendent. Dr. Vinson will be resigning at the conclusion of this school year to start a new adventure with the Wylie Independent School District, as reported in the Wylie News on March 26. Under Dr. Vinson, Floresville began the Building a Community of Character program. During his time as Superintendent Floresville voters passed a $63 million bond package that allowed the district funds to build Floresville North Elementary which open to students this school year. The Death of Civility In America! Is There Any Hope For The Next Generation? Every Monday morning I have a routine as I prepare for my week. I watch the Today Showto see what's going on in the world as I sip my coffee and write out my 'To Do' list for the week. This Monday was no exception. As I worked on my 'To Do' list a feature on the Today Show caught my attention..... I have not been able to get it out of my head.... Saturday was an absolutely beautiful for a Parade and the 2010 Peanut Festival Parade in Floresville,TX was awesome! Way to go Floresville you know how to put on one heck of a show! Peanut Festival Court 2010! It has taken me a long time to be able to figure out how to make the movie, get a YouTube account and upload.   Thanks to all the people who responded to me about the pictures.  Any feedback on the length of the video is welcome.   I think it is too long BUT I left out things I would have liked to included.  The bad thing about the link is our information is at the end which someone may never reach. This was my 4th or 5th time dining at Ara's Bistro, located at 1818 10th Street, Floresville, TX 78114, and once again the food was excellent. This afternoon I enjoyed the lunch special of a 3" Shrimp Po Boy and a cup of Catfish Court Bouillon, with my usual Unsweet Iced Tea. It was filling and delicious. Ara's Bistro offers a healthier menu than the majority of their local competition. Wilson County to Hold Last Tax Rate Hearings Before Making Decision on Increase! Thursday September 9, 2010 in Floresville City Hall at 7pm! The City is purposing a 43.27 cents per $100 assessed property value tax increase to those that reside within Floresville City Limits. With the average home value within Floresville at approx. $98000 this will increase the amount pain in city property taxes by approx. $424 annually.
