Sun City Texas Vendor Fair - March 25th 2011 - Mark Your Calendar Sun City Texas vendor fairs are exceptionally well attended by residents and non residents alike.  Last September's Fair hosted a crowd of 3500 attendees and more than 160 Vendors.  Sun City Texas residents like the opportunity to meet with and discuss their needs with multiple vendors before they make a decision to part with their hard earned money.  Residents also carry a great deal of power making certain vendors perform as expected since just five bad ratings eliminates a vendor from participation. So mark your calendars and visit Rugg Realty at the Sun City Texas Vendor Fair March 25, 2011. If you or a client are considering an Active Adult lifestyle in a 55+ Community and want to learn more about the advantages of...

My comments were deleted! I was trying to get some work done last night on Active Rain and see if I could find a hidden jewel of a post I could suggest.  I came across a post pitching a million dollar property in Arizona and it caught my eye for some reason. I decided to click through and check it out. Well, not much to check out actually. Four total photos in total all with a date stamp of May 2010 and three of the front of the house.  I kept going back to see if I had missed something, but to no avail. I left comments that the poster might want to reconsider how they were associating themselves with the property. This morning I check to see if there was any response and discovered my comments had been deleted.  I guess the poster did appreciate my helpful suggestions.  No one else has...

It may not be summer weather but that does not mean your children cannot enjoy the water in the city of Georgetown. Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation, also known as Park Pals, will be launching Georgetown Swims on January 17th. The program is intended to provide both swimming and water safety training to children from low income families. The nonprofit organization Park Pals joined with the local Boys and Girls Club to find children in need who do not know how to swim and could not afford lessons.President of Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation, Rebecca Gibson-Laemel, said the first session includes eight swim lessons for 14 kids. She plans to have two more sessions in the spring. The goal of it is to make every child in Georgetown a swimmer. The Park Pals program is in e...

Ho HO WHOA....where did Christmas GO ?   I think I read somewhere that we celebrated Christmas last week.  I vaguely remember some eggnog, last minute shopping, and throwing some gifts into some bags that had happy, smiling snowmen on them that looked like they might have had a nip or two of the eggnog themselves.   Anyway,  my point is (and I do have one), that for December, my real estate business has been....active.  Hoppin'.  Crazy.  BUSY.  Please don't misunderstand me - I'm certainly not complaining.  Quite the opposite.  Nor am I trying to "toot my own horn" (much).  Cliche as it may sound,  I really do love this business, no matter what month it comes in.  It just took me a little off guard!   The last thing I remember before the flood gates opened was....."I have plenty of ...

Last month the City of Georgetown celebrated the grand reopening of St. David's Hospital after it underwent renovations that totaled nearly $7 million and a year and half to complete. Hospital CEO, Hugh Brown, said "Our facility now reflects the high quality of care we deliver here. " The hospital was originally built as a community hospital in 1979 and was taken over by St. David's Healthcare in 2005. Under new ownership in 2005, the hospital received cosmetic and equipment upgrades along with the ability to perform new procedures that made it competitive by modern healthcare standards. The $7 million renovation focused on the surgery department, women's center, dining room, main lobby, and common areas. Over $1 million was invested into the surgery department by upgrading technology in...

The city of Georgetown now has more to offer its children in the way of education. Locally owned and operated Meridian World School was recently introduced as a new charter school in the area. The school will begin offering classes in the fall of 2011 and will be using the International Baccalaureate program. This program is offered at a few public schools already in Texas, but Meridian will be the only one in Central Texas who will eventually offer the curriculum from kindergarten through 12th grade. The International Baccalaureate program curriculum is designed for those gifted and motivated children who need more time and attention to learn, which is done by focusing on inquiry-based teaching.Meridian World School will initially offer classes from kindergarten through ninth grade and...

Just north of Sun City Texas on I35 is the town of Salado TX.  Salado has countless shops geared toward the arts, artisans, and art lovers alike. Salado also host several art fairs a year the most popular and well attended occurring in August.  Artist from all over Texas display their crafts and typically sell much of what they have presented. Of all the shops in Salado, a store called Horsefeathers is my favorite. They have a great combination of furniture, accessories, and artwork that will give the decorator inside all the variety need to create or enhance that special space.  Proprietor Leigh Bracken, has a special eye to be certain the store is filled with the most current and derisible home furnishings at reasonable prices that people actually want to buy.  Inventory changes f...

Georgetown passed over $137.3 million in school bonds with the November 2nd election. The increased growing student population in Georgetown made it necessary to bring the Propositions up for a vote. During the 1999-2000 school year there were 7,500 students in the district. This year when the school doors opened, there were 10,500 students which is a 40 percent increase. The passage of the bond is the highest in the district's history. There were two propositions up for consideration in the past election that passed. The propositions included renovations of school campuses across the district, the construction of two elementary schools, a new middle school, and funds to purchase lands for future schools.Proposition 1, which includes $90.1 million in bonds, passed with 63 percent of the...

Sun City, Texas Cowan Creek Fishing Pond Grand Opening Dec 3, 2010   After 7 months of construction, the new Cowan Creek Fishing Pond in Sun City Texas is ready for its grand opening on December 3. This is the most engineered fishing hole I have ever seen and perhaps among the most engineered ponds in the country.  7 months ago the site of the "pond" was the top a hill with solid lime stone. Months of heavy equipment, jack hammers, bull dozers, & trucks made way for the contour of the pond.  Then the pond design team took over and created "fish heaven" by creating a real life like environment for the fish to live and thrive.  The pond architect and the Sun City Texas Hunting & Fishing Club collaborated on the design to get it just right.   Grand Opening ceremonies will be Dec 3 2010, an...

Downtown Georgetown, TX has just become a little more cool. Well, that's what they said in my decade, the 80's. I guess now they would say "sick" or "fly" or something else that really doesn't make sense....but then again I'm sure my parents didn't understand what "cool" meant either.   Ken'z Guitars and Accesories has moved from slightly off the square to a primo piece of real estate directly across from the Courthouse in historic downtown Georgetown, TX. It's on the same block as a few of my other favorite downtown places, such as Hill Country Bookstore, the Escape, and Landmark Tavern. In fact, I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than strolling downtown, grabbing a new bestseller, starting my Christmas shopping a little early, stoppin by a music store for a little f...

The first Saturday of every month, in downtown Georgetown, in the courthouse square (note Courthouse on right) , for several months out of the year, there is Market Day.  Vendors, food, music, people - all the ingredients that go into making up the recipe that creates a classic Central Texas event. Today, November 13, 2010, is the final Market Day of the season, and what a grande finale it is!  In addition to the usual fare, today is the Inaugural Chili Cookoff and Beer Garden.  Cooking started at 8:00, chili and beer will be available at noon.  We've got a brisk, sunny, windy, cool day, just perfect for chili!  In addition, the event is a fundraiser for the annual Christmas Stroll (we're very fond in Central Texas of making our parties into fundraisers for worthy causes, and making our...

Hill Country Craft Fair At Sun City Texas a Huge Success With more than 100 crafters present, perfect weather, and a crowd of thousands, the Hill Country Craft Fair in Sun City Texas was a huge success.  Crafts of every description were displayed their wares inside every available building and spilled over to the parking lot at the Sun City Texas Activities center this past weekend. My personal favorite was the custom made golf putters crafted out of exotic hardwoods and finished to perfection.  A true work of art.
