City Initiates Mandatory Phase 2 Water Restrictions Mandatory Phase 2 water restrictions limiting landscape watering for Highland Village residents went into effect on Wednesday, July 27. Phase 2 prohibits residential and commercial landscape watering on Monday’s and Friday’s and restricts watering the rest of the days of the week between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Wasteful water runoff is prohibited, which includes hosing down pavement or rinsing off cars. Groundwater well owners and residents that draw water from the lake are required to post a sign showing well water or lake water is in use. Residents are encouraged to comply with the Phase 2 water restrictions; however due to the severity of the drought conditions the city will diligently enforce the restrictions. I had this same question after I drove over, around and through a pothole on my street for over a month.   The timing was impeccable by Highland Village's new "Eye On" app for smart phone users.  I was so excited to see my city was so progressive! Smart phone users simply open the application, select an issue, take a picture, and tap submit – the application picks up the exact location and sends the issue directly to the staff member who can fix it. You can track your submitted issues and, if you enter an e-mail address, receive notification when your issue is resolved. In order for the application to work, enable or turn on the GPS on the phone. Just visit your App Store for the iPhone or Android and search "GoRequest" to find it.   I did this and got a response back immediately saying...

I am not sure if it's because my daughter knows more kids from the neighborhood, or that I know the HOA president, or just that it's about that time, but my family and I have attended several of the community-sponsored events at Castlewood in Highland Village, TX. It's nice that our dues go to not only great facilities, but excellent staff and volunteer community members who help plan special events like today's 4th of July parade.  We have never done this before but we will definitely be participating in years to come.   The parade started with red, white and blue donuts and bananas cut in half with patriotic sprinkles (what a great idea!). There was construction paper and crayons for everyone to write cards to our troops serving our country, tattoos and flags.   Outside, you could pim...

Like most dogs, my sweet dog Peanut has freakish phobias.  She's fine with thunder and lightening, but put her in a room with a balloon of any sort and you've got "skulky" dog as we like to call it.  Don't even think about testing your smoke detectors with her in the house.  When the battery starts chirping, this dog will bolt up into our bed shaking like leaves on a tree. I don't know what made me start doing this a few years ago, but when we would leave for fireworks watching, I would close the door that led to our doggie door to keep sweet Peanut inside the home.  I don't know how she will react to the hiss, hum, and banging of fireworks.  I don't want to find out the hard way that she gets freaked out and tries to escape.   We happened to see the result of a scared dog last year on...

A while back, the developer of The District of Highland Village, Landcore Development Company, in an attempt to ramp up sales on a fledgling mixed-use development, proposed a multi-family unit idea to the Highland Village City Council in December 2010.   I recently received an email from a neighbor that informed me that this group is trying yet again to turn this into a 98-unit multi-family complex.  This motion was denied with a vote of 5-0 but they are still trying.  The public outcry was heard with many residents showing their displeasure for an apartment complex in Highland Village.  This apartment complex would be across the street from Highland Village's only middle school and down the street from one of three elementary schools.   The meeting was scheduled for this evening but wa...

Firefighters from across Texas and volunteers from other states have been working hard in an attempt to contain a week-old wildfire in the Possum Kingdom Lake area about 70 miles west of Fort Worth.  The fire has scorched and blackened nearly 150 square miles of fields and woods and destroyed at least 160 of the community's 3,000 homes.  Governor Rick Perry has asked for prayer over the upcoming Easter weekend---for rain in Texas.

It's official...I'm nesting. With only three weeks left until my third tax deduction arrives, there isn't much time to get the house as ready as possible before time for anything goes down the tube! In order to get ready for the baby, my youngest gets to move upstairs to his "big boy" bedroom.  I am not sure which hormone it is but there is one that is created that makes you want to paint when pregnant.  I don't mind painting...it's the prep work that drives me batty.  I guess if I was sane enough to paint the room all one color, it would be easier.  I don't take that route.  Four colors on six different walls. I have always hated our foyer light fixture.  We built our house in 2006 and it looked like it was found on clearance for $12 from 1993.  I was eyeing a beautiful light fixture i...
