IRS Phone Scam Still Going Strong - Katy and Everywhere Our friend found an automated message on his home answering machine the other day here in Katy TX. The recording said this is the Internal Revenue Services and you owe back taxes of a large sum. If these taxes, interest and penalties are not paid immediately the Internal Revenue Services will take drastic actions. Our friend knew right away this is nothing but a scam. Note the caller message stated  “Services” and not “Service”! The IRS will never add an “S” to the end of its name! He called the number the scammers left on his machine with their phony message. A voice with a very heavy accent answered using the”Services” name once again. The sound in the background sounded like a boiler room or telemarketer call center. Our friend ... 07/14/2016

City of Katy TX Hosts - Katy Freedom Celebration  Katy Freedom Celebration will start with an opening ceremony being held at  VFW Post 9182 which begins at 9 AM on Monday July 4, 2016. After the opening ceremony, The City of Katy Fire Station will hold an open house for the public. Guests will get to meet the Firefighters plus Katy the Fire Dog. You can explore the fire truck and life flight helicopter. A dunking booth, petting zoo and bounce houses will be attractions for the children. A vehicle extrication demonstration will be presented. Free drinks and hotdogs will be available at this open house which is being provided by HEB.  The Katy Heritage Museum will be also be open for visitors. Houston Housing Market Might Avoid Most of Energy Market Decline Last month prominent real estate economist Mark Dotzour told Houston Home Builders the energy markets slowdown will continue to be a negative force on the local Houston economy for the next two years but the housing market is most likely to hold as long as inventory levels remain as they are and have been in recent months. He stated “ It's amazing how resilient the housing market is in Houston”.  Mark’s speech was given at the midyear 2016 economic forecast event held by the Greater Houston Builders Association.  Despite low energy prices and industry layoffs home values and sales have not collapsed. Summer Friday Night Fun - Concert Series at Cane Island Cane Island a gorgeous and new Master Planned Community which is located just west of Old or Historic aty is hosting a Summer Concert Series on Friday nights. These concerts will be held on the lawn at the Amenity Village.  Families will get the opportunity to enjoy music such as blues, jazz and classic rock. There will also be no charge children events being held at the Can Island Conservatory.  The concerts start at 7 PM with the lawn at Amenity Village opening at 6:30 PM for activities. Almost Wordless Wednesday - The Who and Led Zeppelin Play at Same Show 1969 On May 25, 1969 The Who and Led Zeppelin played at the same concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD. This is the only time these two super groups played at the same event. The funny part is Led Zeppelin was the warmup band for the The Who. In addition, the tickets spelled Zeppelins name as Lead Zeppelin. I believe Led Zeppelin was not very well known at that point time.  I can only imagine if someone has an original ticket with any signatures from either group on the ticket how much it would be worth at a music auction. Elks Lodge Katy Hosts Annual Fish Fry  Katy Elks Lodge is hosting its 28TH Annual Fish Fry on Saturday May 14, 2016. This annual event was rescheduled due to the flood which hit this area a few weeks ago. The Fish Fry starts at 11 AM and lasts until 3 PM.   The cost is $12 per adult and can be purchased in advance from any Lodge member and online by clicking here or at the door.   Children under 12 years old can be purchased at the door for $6 each. There will be a live as well as a silent auction.
