Signs in the Forest - You Never what You Will Find! During early September 2016 we were very lucky to travel from Katy TX to both Germantown NY and New York City. One morning we all took a hike in the woods that surround our friends two homes. After all this election mumbo jumbo that went on for months on end plus the election aftermath of protests I thought a little less serious stuff should be in order today.   I have always said let sleeping Bears lie.. Reality is Bears are very light sleepers and can tell immediately when someone or something is near them..   It is always a good thing to know how far you are from Austin, TX!    Signs in the Forest - You Never what You Will Find!

Katy YMCA Holds Annual Turkey Dash 2016 The Katy TX Family YMCA in partnership with Reliant an NRG Company will host its 14TH annual Turkey Dash on its traditional Thanksgiving day morning being November 24, 2016.  A few years ago a 10K event was added and received significant positive feedback. This year there will be a 5K and 10K course as separating the events improves participants experience. In addition, there is also a family event named Kids one mile run plus family oriented 1 mile walk or run or both. The proceeds from this Turkey dash as part of the YMCA’s continuing commitment to the local community will be used to fund various program scholarships  and subsidies for Katy area families in need. It is expected this year over 6,000 people will participate in this Turkey Dash an...

2016 Katy Community Thanksgiving Dinner This Community Thanksgiving Dinner is another in a long line of local community traditions in Katy Texas being held for the benefit of the less fortunate individuals living in the community. This year’s dinner is being held on Thursday November 24, 2016 or Thanksgiving Day at the First Baptist Church which is located at 600 Pin Oak Road in Katy. The dinner will start at 11AM and last until 1 PM. I am posting this information as a surprising number of folks who might want to donate time and or money plus folks who need a good meal never hear about this great local event.  Last year's dinner served over 1,200 hungry folks and it is expected that number will grow once again this year as it has each year in the past. Attendees will  also receive donat...

Flu Shot Today for Me in Katy TX I got my annual flu shot today at Costco in Katy. I writing this post as getting the shot had slipped my mind for several weeks. My Doctor who is Internal Medicine specialist tells me at my age I need to make sure I get the annual flu shot. This guy is an excellent Doctor and I do whatever he tells me to do. He is a Doctor who does not just write prescriptions.  I know there are several folks who last year told me about how they never get a shot. I totally get it and understand. I had the flu several times in my lifetime and while shot is not absolute protection getting one in my case is a good thing to do.  I am writing this post to remind folks it is flu season and if you get annual shots and have done so as of yet you might want to put on your to do l...

It was in the early fall of 1969.  Two high school sweethearts from a rural west Texas town had just graduated in 1968 and were married in August of that same year.  It was a different time then, President Johnson was on his way out of the White House, and President Nixon was on his way in.  Gasoline was priced at thirty-five cents per gallon and Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever land on the moon that year.  But that wasn’t all that happened in 1969.  With barely a year of marriage behind them and not having seen the age of twenty yet, the young bride said good-bye to her groom when he answered the call of enlistment into the U.S. Army after receiving his draft notice.  On September 3rd, Bobby Fellers shipped out to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas to complete his basic training and l...

November 2016 Photo Challenge - Home in Grand Lakes Below is a picture I took today of the side of a home in Grand Lakes Katy TX. The side shot shows part of the beautiful backyard of this home, the lake which is on both the side of the home and on the back plus a blue heron enjoying the lake. The front and backyard of this gorgeous homes are in immaculate condition and if the owners wanted to sell this home would require absolutely no additional changes or work for the grounds/landscaping. I decided to use this picture as an entry into the Real Estate  grounds and landscaping Photo Challenge which was put together by Dick Greenberg.   I have also included pictures of just some of the beautiful flowers found in the backyard of this home. I really appreciate the hard work the owners cons...

Alert - Coyote Spotted in Grand Lakes Katy TX This is a warning to all residents in Grand Lakes and surrounding areas as a coyote was actually seen on the porch of a resident the other day at around 2 AM. I found this information on another social media web site. This resident was awakened by her dogs barking and she went went to see what was going on. She saw a coyote on her front porch looking at her and her dogs through a side window next to the front door. This resident had a cat that went missing earlier this year and now she has an idea what happened to her cat.  The quick research I have conducted states a coyote has a potential daily range of movement from 10 - 25 miles. There have been additional confirmed reported sightings in other neighborhoods in the area with one sighting ...

I Voted Early on Nov 1, 2016 .. How about You?  I voted early today in Fort Bend County TX and there were no lines. At the start of early voting last week the lines were reported to be very long and the time necessary to cast a ballot way longer than 1 hour. What I have heard is there are a huge number of people who have chosen to vote early for this national/local election. I am firm believer that everyone who qualifies to vote should indeed make the effort and take the time to actually vote. As a citizen we have the right to vote but I think it extends further as I also believe we all have a duty to vote. If you decide not to vote then you really should not be complaining after the election. I agree this election period of time is getting real old plus getting on most folks nerves. I ...

First Open House - Became first Executed Deal Several years ago, I was a brand new agent and I was given the opportunity to hold an open house for the senior agent I was working under at that point in time. It was his listing and the home was located in Old or Historic Katy. Of course even though I was certainly not a business newbie, I was pretty nervous.   This home was built in the early 1970’s and included a second lot which was immediately next  to the lot containing the home. The home had been updated but still had its own unique charm. This home was very clean and well cared for by the owners. These folks loved this home and of course very proud of it. If I remember correctly, I believe they were moving to the Texas Hill Country as they had retired from working.  I drove the surr...

Halloween Drivers Safety Tips I drive on a regular basis in both Katy and Cypress TX and on a daily basis I see numerous drivers who are not driving very safely and many who are violating various laws. As Halloween is Monday October 31, 2016, I thought some driver safety tips are in order to post and to remind drivers to be safe.  Try slowing down especially in residential neighborhoods where children will be out on Halloween and will be distracted by the excitement. Children as we all know do make unpredictable moves and take quick actions. Take the time to look for children at intersections, on curbs, on medians and in the middle of the block ready to dart out. The usual popular Trick or Treat times are from 5:30 PM until 9:30 PM. Most neighborhoods see the bulk of these children befo...

Wordless Wednesday - Sunsets Make for Interesting Pictures I really like sunset and sunrise pictures as I think there is something new to notice every time you look at the same sunset or sunrise picture. Below is a recent picture I took and I like the clouds mixing with the sunset. The cloud cover rolled pretty quickly just before I snapped this shot.  Have a great Wednesday evening and the remainder of your week.  Wordless Wednesday - Sunsets Make for Interesting Pictures

New Sporting Goods Dealer Hits Katy/Houston Market with a Huge Splash Dick’s Sporting goods opened six store in the greater Houston area including one in Katy. This weekend marked this retailer's Grand Opening of each of these stores. I went yesterday and this is a huge operation with separate sections for Field & Stream, Golf, Sports Clothing/shoes plus equipment. I have to say I was amazed and the Katy store was packed with shoppers. Parking was not easy but you just had to be persistent. There are $10 savings coupons, with a purchase of $25 or more, in the Houston Chronicle as well as inside a mailer folks should have received in the mail. The savings coupon is valid until October 30, 2016.  I think some of the other sports retailers will lose a lot of business in this whole market t...

Fall Has Finally Arrived In Katy TX People who live in this whole Katy and Houston area have been waiting for Fall Weather to finally arrive. Yesterday the temperature when I took our dog for a walk in Grand Lakes was about 52 degrees. It felt great and the high for the day was around 88 degrees. Mind you last week we had several days when the temperatures were in the 90’s plus with high humidity.  This morning when I was out with our pup the temps were about 51 degrees and it felt invigorating.  The high today is suppose to be 78 degrees. The sky is blue and the sun is shining. We get excited when the hot and humid weather finally departs every year and this year it is almost November before this took place. Mind you when the most the country is suffering with extreme cold temps and sn...
