Photowalking in Grand Lakes Katy TX #1 I read our friend Roy Kelley 's post this evening suggesting an excellent way to end the week is post a picture from your photowalking in your neighborhood of flowers. Roy always has wise suggestions and I thought if I got the opportunity I would do just what he suggested. I am sort of watching the Patriots and Cardinals play and ready to call it a day. I have to get up early to work out tomorrow morning.  Good night!

Today is September 11, 2016 - Never Forget in Katy TX and Everywhere!  Another year has gone by and today is the fifteenth anniversary of 9/11 or September 11 which has now been named Patriots Day. We all need to take time to remember all the folks who died in this horrible tragedy, were injured, were First Responders, Firefighters and Policemen who were heroes, friends, family and coworkers who were personally affected  and all the folks all across this land who were impacted  by this act of cowardly terrorism.   I hope most people remembered to have a moment of silence at 8:46 AM ( EDT) to pay their respects. If you miss this exact time then do it later in the day when you remember. I am sure many folks who are alive and had loved one's, family, friends who perished will want to lay f...

Working on 2015 Taxes this Weekend in Katy TX. I am working on our 2015 Federal Income Taxes this weekend in Katy TX. as we filed an extension several months ago. The normal due date is October 15, 2016 if you have filed for Form 1040 extension. This year the due date is Monday October 17, 2016 as the October 15 is a Saturday. I usually have our taxes completed and filed during august but that is not the case this year. The delay for us is finding support and completing a spreadsheet for my Real Estate business expenses to use for my Schedule C. I find this to be tedious work in spite of the fact I am a CPA.  I received an offer from another CPA to prepare my taxes and he quoted a minimum price of $500 per return. I had a very short brief moment of insanity when I said maybe I should lo...

Almost Wordless Wednesday - National Dog Day August 26, 2016 Friday August 26, 2016 is National Dog Day and I wanted to reach out to everyone a little early. I think this is a great time to go to a local shelter and make some poor homeless pup a very happy dog and adopt him or her! Way too many dogs are left to die on the street or in shelters or be horribly abused. It hurts my heart as these poor dogs cannot control their own destiny but you do! An adopted dog will be extremely loyal and loving to you for the rest of their life. If you want to adopt a dog in the Katy or surrounding areas and do not know what to do and or where to go contact me at 281-904-6772 or bobgilbert2003@msn.com and I will hook you up.   The above pictures are of our small dog who is a rescue dog. She is fiercely...

Seven Months 2016 Market Report for South Katy TX- MLS Area 36 I always prefer to examine year-to-date data throughout any given year and look at year to year comparisons for discovering market trends as I think there is too much volatility on a month to month basis to make any conclusions. My primary market is South Katy or MLS area 36. Of course I also am interested in MLS 25 or North Katy; MLS area 37 Fort Bend West; MLS 29 Fort Bend-Sugar Land and Stafford plus a few others in Cypress TX. Seven months YTD 2016 versus Seven months YTD 2015 for MLS for South Katy comparison shows some interesting trends. Here are the salient numbers: Units sold in 2016 decreased from 2,025 in 2015 to 1,935 during 2016 which is a 4.4% decrease and appears to be getting worst as the year goes on. At the...

Olympian Spirit ActiveRain Challenge here in Katy TX  ActiveRain August Challenge is to discuss the Olympian Spirit and how it applies to each of us. The Olympics are over today as iis this Challenge. I thought about this post and wrote it in my head but never took the time to just write it. I think I have to start with what I think constitutes the Olympian Spirit  and then cover how it applies to me and my life.  The research I did found a man named Pierre de Coubertin invented the modern Pentathlon and he intended the sport to be educational. The olympic Charter established by de Coubertin states “ The practice of sport is a human right”. Everyone should be able to play sport with discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic Spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit o...

Money Monster is a Flick to See We watched Money Monster on Comcast (we paid) last night based on a recommendation from a friend of ours. This movie stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts. The story is of a TV based personality who reviews the stock market and makes stock recommendations. We believe it was using an existing stock TV program where the stock guy uses all kinds of unconventional methods and quirky means to present and review the stock market.  I have though for a long time the stock market is a controlled market where computerized traders and hedge funds squeeze small individual investors. The stock market is a zero sum game. Money Monster discusses computerized stock market algorithms to do numerous trades of buying and selling every day. In addition, the head of one stoc...

Alert : Unknown Animal Spotted during Early Morning in Grand Lakes Earlier this week I was out walking our dog at about 6:10 AM and I saw an unknown animal in the street and hugging the curb while moving very quickly. This was on Center Village Dr. and S. Pavillon Dr. (street that runs around the square shaped Park). This creature was black in color, fairly long but not very tall. It was not a roof rat which are common here and certainly was not an armadillo or a possum which are also common here. Maybe a muskrat?  As I said above, while I was walking our dog I saw something moving in the street, I put light from my flashlight on this creature and that is when it moved even faster than before. I was uncertain where it was headed so I picked up our small dog so she would be safe in my ar...
