As of Sept 1, 2009, you may no longer use a mobile communication device in a school zone unless it is hands free.  This includes texting, email etc.  The new law also states that the designated zones must have signage stating that this is now illegal. Abscence of the proper signage MAY MEAN that you will not recieve a citation...by why risk it?   So a word to the wise.  If you HAVE to use your mobile phone while driving in these areas, make sure that you are using hands free equipment. 08/17/2009

From the beginning of recorded history, man has been fascinated with outer space and it's mysteries.  The incredible Hubble Telescope has opened science to arenas of thought that pummel the mind.  Our curiosity compels us as a people to discover the worlds beyond our own in a quest to answer many questions and two of the biggest are, "is there life on Mars and Are there really little green men?"  I cannot speak as an authority concerning life on Mars but I can attest to seeing a growing number of "little green men." Interesting and personally unhelpful, the Houston Association of Realtors put out a warning concerning sign ordinance enforement is in full force.  Sec. 4608 (c)(3) of the Houston Sign Code is in full enforcement.  The code states that any unlawful sign found within public right-of-way shall be seized and removed.  This includes the area by the side of roads and medians. Section 28-39 of the Code of Ordinances in part states: It shall be unlawful for any person to place or cause to be placed any advertising matter of any kind whatsoever located in the public streets, public sidewalks alleyways, easements, public property or any other public place. A child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible.  Here is the child's perspective. In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but darkness and some gas.  The Bible says, "The Lord thy God is one" but I think he must be a lot older than that!   As property taxes continue to rise, we are all challenged to keep up with them.  There is some good news for Texans as Gov. Rick Perry has on July 9th signed into law House Bill 3613 and 8 which will help to slow the pace of increasing property appraisals, provide additional oversight for the appraisal process, and grant a total expemption for the homes of veterans who are disabled due to their military service.  It is worthy to note that it was Texas Realtors that spearheaded the campaign to see this reform take place.  We do more than market and sell and help to purchase homes.   08/08/2009

Orient Cafe in Kingwood has opened its doors again!  This is an awesome oriental restaurant at 20699 W. According to the Houston TX Area Realtors Association, the sale of single-family homes in greater Houston TX continues to improve.  In June of 09, we had the highest volume recorded since August of 08 and the highest median price in history.  The overall percent for single family homes is still down 13.5% from one year ago. Foreclosed properties are also decreasing month to month which is encouraging.  Sales of all property types in greater Houston TX was 6,306 which is off 15% from June of 08. Over all, the Houston TX market has shown improvement for each month of this year in both sales volume and pricing stability.    With the tax credit for up to $8000 which may be applied to your down payment is a real asset to most anyone who has not owned a home in the past 3 years.  This tax cre... 08/06/2009

What in the world does it take to help to make a Real Estate deal close successfully even when they say that it can't be done?   As we all know, seldom, if ever, does a deal "go down" in the same as any other.  People, places, conditions, weather, lenders, inspectors and on the list goes, all make each deal unique and challenging. Navy pilot Scott Michael Speicher's remains were just found after 18 years.  He was a casualty of the 1991 Gulf War after his F/A 18 Hornet was shot down what at first was thought to be a ground to air missile and then later confirmed to be a MIG aircraft.  On the day of the mission, Jan 17, 1991 he was declared as killed in action/body not recovered.  In 2001 he is listed by the pentagon as missing in action and then to missing/captured in 2002.  In 2008 the intelligence community declared that he was deceased with remains not located.   The president has now once again insured us that "As with all service men and women considered missing in action, we remain steadfast in our determination to bring our American hero's home."
