I have many clients ask me what they should do to their yard before putting their Pearland home on the market.   Lately, there has been a lot of talk in the local news about economic woes in the Houston Area.  NASA job concerns seems to add to the local recession worries.  This in turn has effected the way many view the local real estate market.    However, in a recent Houston Chronicle article, the head of the University of Houston's Institute for Regional Forecasting, Barton Smith, noted that Houston is working its way out of the recession sooner than originally expected.   "The old wisdom that because Houston was so late in getting into the recession that it would be late in getting out of it simply proved to be wrong," Smith stated. "There are two key reasons the Houston economy has held up so much better than most parts of the country: a fast oil price recovery and stable home prices."    ... 05/19/2010

  An interesting article ran in the Houston Chronicle today regarding mortgage rates.  It noted that the average rate on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage "dipped to 4.93 percent this week from 5 percent a week earlier" becoming "the  lowest level since mid-December when rates averaged 4.81 percent."  On a 15-year fixed rate mortgage, the average rate was 4.3 percent, down from 4.36 percent last week!   What great news for Pearland home buyers!   What does this mean for the Pearland real estate market? Pearland Texas Hurricane Preparation 2010 Everyone in Pearland Texas and surrounding areas remembers Hurricane Ike two years ago.  Almost everyone I know had some sort of damage done to their Pearland homes and/or yards.  In fact, several tornadoes touched down in Pearland, leaving behind mass damage to properties across town. Our home in Pearland had lots of damage and we lots years old trees.  We stayed through the hurricane in our home along with other family members and friends.  Honestly, I have to say, I do not know if our family will stay again.  The fear for me was overwhelming. We had water leaks everywhere in the house, trees, coming down and even had an exterior door fly off the handle. I honestly thought we were prepared.
