That's according to the "2008 Salary Value Index" survey by Salary.com. Because of our diverse and stable economy, the N. Dallas area continues to attract business. A number of major companies are now located here in the N. Dallas area specifically and Texas in general (thought I have not actually counted just how many, I have read that Texas now has more Fortune 500 companies than any other state.) Business friendly policies mean more successful, and profitable, companies. More successful and profitable companies are able to expand, or invest in, their operations, explore new ventures, and hire new employees. See a trend?

The stock market's moving in a downward direction, the housing market looks like it's following the stocks, and we all need to save where ever we can in order to purchase our next tank of gas. However, when faced with the big decisions in life don't take the cheap way out, seek good counsel. These decisions can be, often are, life changing. Has anyone noticed their car or truck not getting as many miles with each tank of gas? (per fill-up, or per gallon)? Starting within the last few months, when I completely fill-up my Lexus sedan, the "range" gauge would read between 297 miles and about 305 miles. Now I'm lucky if it's as high as 287. This is going to lead to a policy post.

Lately, it seems a lot of stuff reported in the news is really not news, but rather stuff that could happen or someone is predicted a particular event will happen.  Oil's on its way to $500.00 a barrel...The economy will continue tanking. Maybe the opinion page has moved from the back of the paper to the front page. Thoughts?

Recently I read a Wall Street Journal article about a United Van Lines study which looked at the economics of interstate immigration. It suggested that high tax rates in "loser" states were pushing citizens to migrate to less taxed "winner" states. The "loser" states of the Northeast, Midwest and California are losing citizens to the "winner" Southern and Western states. That citizen's vote, not only on Election Day, but also on non-election days...with a moving van...is something we should keep in mind when thinking about policies. (use of "loser" and "winner" to designate the respective states is my own vice) Maxims to keep in mind: People respond to incentives and policies have unintended consequences. Back in June of 2004, the US Public Interest Research Group conducted a survey in regards to the accuracy of the information contained in their credit reports. They asked adults in 30 states to order their credit reports and complete a survey. Here's what they concluded: Almost 8% were missing major credit, loan, mortgage, or other accounts that demonstrate the creditworthiness of a consumer. 22% listed the same mortgage or loan twice. 25% of the credit reports contained serious errors that could result in the denial of credit.  This included false delinquencies or accounts that didn't belong to the consumer. 30% of the credit reports contained credit accounts that had been closed by the consumer but remained listed as open. 54% of the credit reports contained personal demographic infor...
