Yesterday, while my mom was still in town, we decided to go do a bit of shopping with the whole family.  We were headed to Lakeline Mall, and we originally considered going to that area to eat.  On the way there, I decided that would be ill-advised, considering it was the day after Christmas and it was exactly "lunchtime" (i.e. around noon).  Instead, we opted to go to Zorba, which is a Greek restaurant located near Dell in Round Rock, just in front of the Wal-Mart.    Although the food was superb, the communication skills of the employees who were placed in charge of taking our order were VERY poor.  It was laborious trying to explain what we wanted to eat, and it took several tries to finally get everything squared away at the counter.  Additionally, the menu was not helpful, as I pi...

Christmas Day in Round Rock was lovely! I have grown up in the West, born in West Texas, raised in Arizona and now in Central Texas. For me Christmas should be mild, little or no snow, cool enough to  put a log on the fireplace but not so cold that you cannot go outside in sweats and play football or basketball and the sun should be shinning and most of my Christmas have been just that way.  Christmas morning we awoke early and prepared a traditional breakfast which includes Chocolate Gravy and biscuit's, sausage, eggs, waffles and sparkling apple juice. Yummy!!! The Late lunch supper menu included:Prime Rib Lawry's style with the cream corn, mashed potatoes, salad, mushrooms cooked in butter what a feast. So good! Today the diet begins. So far only coffee and a couple of pieces of dry...

We had a Great Christmas! It started for me on Christmas Eve, I was one of the Three Wisemen in our Christmas play. I know, I know what you are thinking. but I always get type cast this time of year. What can I say, I am a natural. The costume was made by a production company with a smaller model, which has inspired me to start my diet today so I can get closer to that models size not because I plan to wear the costume but I would like to give my skeleton a break for the new year. We had two services on Christmas Even on at 4pm and the other at 6pm. My daughter is a culinary graduate with friends and that means that when I got home there were stuffed Port chops, fresh salad with home made dressing, and many other things I cannot pronounce or spell but I sure could eat. For dessert, Bos...

Texas Jumping Beans has become the birthday party destination of choice for our kids (we had my son's party there yesterday afternoon).  We have had four parties there so far, and it's still tons of fun for all of us.  There are about eight to ten very large inflatable "jumpers" (hence the name).  They change them out pretty regularly.  Yesterday, during our visit, there was a jumper shaped like a pirate ship, and another like a long train with an obstacle course inside.  They also have a large inflatable slide, which is where the kids tend to congregate most often.  With the new addition of about 30-40 rubber balls that are about the size of dodgeballs but very lightweight, it made it even more fun this time around.I like the fact that weekday afternoon parties are priced very reasona...

FROM Round Rock Community Impact Newspaper  The different shades of greenProjects blend dollar and earth-friendly values in latest building trend  By Christi Covington Hints of support for environment-friendly development have sprouted their first shoots in Round Rock, and for more than one reason. “Green is good business,” said Don Dungan, a developer with Designated Tree Inc. “It is changing every day,” he said. “Even Wal-Mart is going green.” Dungan and his partner Kang Lee began construction this summer on Green Square, the city’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified office space, a designation that dubs the project officially green. Dungan chose Round Rock as the site for Green Square because of the city’s interest, the need for office space and the lack of...

Sprawling is the new adjective for Round Rock Texas. This once sleepy little town (pre Dell Computers) has come a long way and is headed for bigger better things.  I moved to Round Rock in 1988, after a brief stint in Georgetown and a longer time in Austin, Tx.  The whole town shined as a great place to raise children, meet people and get involved in local things. It was clean and wholesome and I loved it.Now, with 61,000+ people, I still love it!  What has happened as progress marchs on....we got an Outlet Mall (way wonderful), we have 2 new hospitals (Scott & White and Seton), we have a new Texas State campus, shopping all over has improved and roads are improved w/Tollroad 130/45.  So, when I heard that from CR 1431 up to CR 1460 headed south to Hwy. 79, our community leaders have pl...

WHAT COULD I BE MISSING? You almost hate to turn on the News or read the paper as it relates to Real Estate these days. The negative news has out weighed the positive for sometime now. As a Realtor, I wonder could we be misssing something. Perhaps an opportunity to teach ecomnomics 101. Would you rather hold a promisary note or a real piece of property? Several years ago when I was in my early 20's a man gave me a quick economic lesson. He encouraged me to invest my promisory notes (dollars) in real property, gold, silver and real estate. He called Silver the poor mans gold and made sure he invested in it weekly. I started investing in silver buying a little at a time for about 5 to 6 dollars an ounce, but I really got interested in Real Estate. The dollar is now worth half what it wa...

Active Listings 881 Pending Contracts226Round Rock home sales are still going strong despite the national woes!  Home sales price per square foot continues to increase and days on the market are approximately the same as last year.  Over all there was a ~2.17% increase in price per square foot for home sales in Round Rock compared to the same time last year (month of October of 2006).  This is strong evidence that prices are continuing to increase in our specific market!  That is great news!! If I can be of any assistance please don't hesitate to ask! Price per sq/ft is rounded to the nearest hundredths.  Slight rounding error occurs from the loss of significant digits when price per square foot is calculated.  Source: ABOR Actris -MLS.  Data is believed to be accurate but not guarant...

So, even though I'm not a native Texan, I have come to learn a few things about Texans since I've been here.  First if all...the truth that everyone know, which is that everything is Bigger in TExas!  Bigger hats, bigger Football, Bigger Plates, Bigger Land!, and of course Bigger houses for your money!Another thing about Texas is that Texans love to make everything uniquely theirs ( I would say ours, but I'm still earning my stripes ;)) for instance we have Texas Burgers, Texas Steaks, Texas Chili (I'll talk more about that later) and even Tex-mex food :) Have you ever seen anyone else wear a T-shirt that proclaims pride about belonging to their state??  You don't see many people with "Proud to be a an Illinoisan" plastered across their chests on shirts or even on skin. (I can attest to...
