In the 1960s, as well as today, St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Denton is a small congregation in a town of a zillion Baptists, even a number of holy roller churches du jour.  And St. Barnabus' membership has always been comprised of primarily poor college students, professors and the like, so no big money. Whiskerville Animal Shelter in Texas City is a nonprofit animal welfare organization in need of volunteers.  Children aged 10 or over may assist in caring for stray cats and dogs, and adults are also needed to support this no-kill agency.  Pet fairs held from 11 am until 4 pm on the first and third Saturdays of each month need volunteer help.  Also dog adoptions are held at the area PetSmart on Sundays from 11 am until 4 pm.
