I took this picture at Lost Maples State Natural Area one year in the fall.  The park is located near Bandera and Medina Texas, west of San Antonio.  There are some great hiking trails, some of them are strenuous and some easy to moderate.  Hope you get to visit there someday with your friends and family.

Vibrantly Colored Trees -- Lost Maples State Natural Area Lost Maples State Natural Area is near Kerrville Texas.   If you have ever wanted to see the trees changing color like they do up north, but without the long travel time, you should visit Lost Maples in Texas. The colors are amazing on these trees.  The park service has put in some great hiking trails.  You can choose from easy to strenuous levels of hiking trails.  Throughout the park there are water features, such as this river. Lost Maples is a great place for a family hike or just to get some exercise.  Don't forget to bring your camera -- and check your batteries to make sure they are charged before you leave in the morning. Lost Maples State Natural Area.  It is a great place to see the maples exhibit their spectacular shades of yellows, oranges  and deep crimson reds. These pictures were taken on  November 11, 2006.  Lost Maples State Natural Area is near Kerrville, Bandera and Medina, Texas. For more information go to Lost Maples State Natural Area.  There you will find a map of the park, directions, pictures and more information. This tree was just beautiful in person.   This is a view of one of the water features.  After this point is a steep climb to the top of a mountain.  It is a steep descent on the other side of the mountain as well.  Take water on these hikes.  Here is one of the trails next to a perfect tree to pose in front of. Hope you and your family get to enjoy this great natural area.
