Civil War Re-enactment at Liendo Plantation -- November 20 - 21, 2010.  This reenactment is put on during the weekend before Thanksgiving every year, rain or shine.  This year was beautiful and sunny and in the 70 - 80 degree range.  We could even see the battle from the freeway before we got to the plantation.l  They shuttled spectators to the battle field by hayride.  These were some of the tents along the way. The battle was in full swing when we got there.  We were on the side closest to the freeway.  The troups were good about firing in unison. It made a large bang and lots of smoke. There were lots of people there.  Most of them bring their own chairs to sit in and watch the hour long battle. After a realtor meeting in August, I happened stumble upon this cute exhibit.  It included a train and  some black gates at a park pavillion near downtown Hempstead. Here is the left gate under the pavillion.  Love the train motif on the gate. Here is the right gate.  The detail work is lovely of the horses and cows.  I can even see the top part of the horse harness that sticks up over the mane of the horse.  I see a windmill as well. I also saw this lovely garden sign in Hempstead.  Great little gazebo. Here is a second view of the train.

Dilorio's Vegetable Market in Hempstead, Texas is a wonderful place to buy your veggies.  Farm fresh vegetables less than an hour from Houston.  Its a great day trip. They also have flowering plants, vegetables and herbs for sale if you want to grow your own.  On one wall they have all the beans and rice.  I bought a bag of brown rice there.  It was cheaper than buying it at the grocery store, and I am supporting my local farmers. Here are the some of the vegetable displays.  Here is what I go for -- the red peppers.  They are priced by the pound and I can normally get a sack of red peppers for about $3.50 (a bargain). They also have a grocery part to the store.  That's where these salad dressings are.  My husband likes the ginger mandarin dressing.  I haven't tried it yet. Another bann...

Waller Texas will be hosting it's first annual Waller Freedom Fest on Saturday July 4th 2009. The festivities will be at the Waller Jr. High Football Field located off of Field Store road and 290. Event times are 10am to 9:30 pm. There will be a live band playing called the Robbie Seay Band. There will be basketball tournaments, food, car show, water slides, rock climbing and more to be followed by a fireworks display after dark. I walked into a bathroom today and met this creature. If he's harmless then it's too late. I now think he was probably the "good" variety of snake but when you are in a house all alone and meet up with one of these slithering creatures....instinct kicks in and you grab something to kill it. I cropped the picture so it wasn't too gorey.  FYI, the window in the bathroom was cracked about 3 inches. It's that time of year again when the snakes are active so if you leave your windows open beware!! While this one MAY be harmless, they aren't all harmless. The funny thing is that I just returned from Big Bend where I was camping and EXPECTING to see a snake. For those of you that may consider moving to Hockley or Waller, your kids will most likely be attending one of the schools in the Waller School District. I have 6 kids that have attended school in this district for the past 9 years and we have had a mostly favorable experience. Here's my take on our experience to date. For reference, here is their website...http://www.waller.isd.esc4.net/My oldest son just graduated from Waller High School in the top 20% of his class. He scored very high on his SAT and will be going on to college in the fall. I have kids in Roberts Road elementary, another one in the high school and one at Waller Junior High. Here in Waller where I live outside of Houston, we have had so much rain that my fingers are wrinkled! lol. The mosquitoes love it, the birds love it, I don't love it! The yard won't dry out so you can mow and that goes for my listings too. So everything looks nasty right now. I know other parts of the country are praying for rain and I'm praying it will go your way! I am counting my blessings though because I've seen on the news where flooding is bad in some parts of Texas and it is not here. Our well will not dry out this summer that is for sure! Another positive....my light bill probably won't be as high because it hasn't been as warm as usual in July. Of course when it rains....people aren't out looking at houses. So I'm singing rain rain go away come again another day....like SEPTE...
