Deer Hollows is another of the subdivisions that was caught in the downturn.  It was started in 2006 as part of a farm that was located in Parowan City limits.  There have only been 3 houses built in the subdivision, so that means that there are still some great lots available to build upon.  There have been no new homes sell in the subdivision since they were built. Darcy and I were out in Parowan today, and got some shots of the houses, one had people out front so we didn't photograph that house, but here are the other two homes. Single Story home in Deer Hollows. Two Story home in Deer Hollows with a great front porch! If you're looking for a quiet subdivision, then Parowan is the place to start looking.  It is a very quiet area, with a lot of room to grow!

I am highlighting another subdivision today that is closer to Parowan than it is to Cedar City.  It is off of Old Highway 91 between Parowan and Summit.  It is a subdivision that I have always liked.  These are custom homes on acreage, 2 pluse acres per lot.  There have been no homes sell in this subdivision in a long while.  Allard Ranch Estates was began in the early 2000's and although there are currently no lots showing up on our MLS, there are still several lots that have yet to be built upon.  This is a very stable subdivision, no homes have shown up in our sold files in the last 3 years. These are nice homes, here are some photos: Allard Ranch Estates Home Another Allard Ranch Estates Home One more Allard Ranch Estates home.

One of the newer estate type subdivisions in Iron County is Red Canyon Estates.  It is located between Parowan and Summit on Old Hwy 91.  These are homes on acreage.  They were started around 2002 and are still being built.  These are mostly upscale homes on parcels of land 5 acres and larger. Some of the lots are in the trees on the hill. There are currently 2 homes listed in the Subdivision one at $189,900 and one at $580,000. Here are some photos: House in Red Canyon Estates Another log styled home in Red Canyon Estates Another house in Red Canyon Estates As you can see, these are not the cookie cutter styled homes.  You can design your own, or bring your own builder!

Today's subdivision is in Parowan, it is the Red Hills Subdivision, it is on the East side of Parowan near State Road 143.  This is a nice subdivision in a really quiet part of town, this subdivision began in the early 1980's but has had some newer homes built as well. There are currently 2 homes listed from $177,000 to $187,000.  Most of these homes are the standard ranch style homes with basements.  They are lots that are .18 of an acre, or close to that size.  Most of the homes are between 1000 and 1300 Square feet on the main level. There are some two story homes and like I said some newer homes. Here are the photos: Newer Red Hills Home Another Red Hills Home Another Red Hills Home One More Red Hills Home

Stillwater Estates is another great, newer subdivision in Parowan.  It is West of Maple Springs, on the Southwest side of Parowan.  Like Maple Springs it is accessable from 200 South which is what Exit 75 turns into off of Interstate 15.  Stillwater Estates is also a move up subdivision, with custom homes on larger lots, .5 of an acre.  It is near the mountains, and consequently Brian Head.  This subdivision started in 2005 and has some lots left to build your dream home on.  There is currently one home listed for sale on our MLS for $329,000.  There is another home that will be coming on to the MLS shortly, it is an REO or a foreclosure property, so we aren't sure where it will be priced as of this writing. Here are some photos of Stillwater Estates: Stillwater Estates home Another Hom...

I have written many blogs about the subdivisions in Cedar City, but honestly we work in several cities.  Parowan, Enoch, Kanarraville, Paragonah, Brian Head and New Harmony are the ones that we choose to work in.  We also work in New Castle, Enterprise and Beryl, although those areas are not our specialty areas, we do work out there. One of the newer subdivisions in Parowan is Maple Springs.  It is on the Southwest side of Town, and is what I would call a move up to a custom home subdivision.  There are still several building lots available, they are .3 of an acre.  The homes in Maple Springs are just gorgeous, most have basements and a square footage of about 2500 or larger.  These are very nice homes, close to the mountains, and not too far from Brian Head. Currently, there are no hom...

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows Your name. These of course are the lyrics of the theme song to the TV show, Cheers.  While I loved that show, this blog is more about the town of Parowan.  Darcy and I lived in Parowan for a couple of years.  It was where I was first licensed as a Realtor.  It is a small town, but then small towns aren't for everyone. Thursday, Darcy and I were helping a couple of our friends with Social Media, they are friends from the Real Estate office in Parowa...

One of the great things about living in a place like Parowan is that it is very quiet.  It is almost Mayberry-esque in that it doesn't take long to get to know everyone.  Another great thing is that they have an active theater company.  The company purchased the old Movie Theater and have turned into a playhouse theater, where the local residents put on plays.   As you can see this Springs production is Beauty and the Beast.

Tonight at a town hall meeting honoring Parowan's 159th Birthday, the town will also honor it's outstanding citizens' of the year.  This year's recipients are Clarence and Wanda Benson.  They have been actively involved in many organizations in Parowan for many, many years.   From a personal perspective no more humble, hard working, honest people exist not only in Parowan, but anywhere.  Wanda for years has attended every funeral that has taken place in either Parowan or Paragonah. Also she has attended most of the weddings taking place in either town.  To his friends (which is honestly everyone) Clarence is known as "Stiffy", a nickname he has had his entire life. Wanda is a former City Council Member, and actively involved at that time with the Library Board.  They have both been invo...

In doing our series of Churches in the Cedar City Area, I am including the Old Parowan Rock Church.  It is no longer a Church, rather it is a museum about the settlers of not only Parowan, but of all of Southern Utah.  The Church was completed in 1867 and served as an LDS Meetinghouse until the 1920's.  It was restored in the 1940's and has been used as a museum since I can remember. It is located in the Town Square in Parowan, near the Parowan Library.             For more information you can check out www.parowan.org

Continuing with our series on area Churches, I went North to Parowan to get some photos of some of the Churches that bless that community.  Parowan is the county seat in Iron County, and is 18 miles North of Cedar City.  It is a community of around 3000 residents and still maintains a lot of it's small town charm with several great older homes, and friendly atmosphere. This is the Parowan United Methodist Church.  It is located on Main Street across from Parowan High School.  As you can see it is housed in one of Parowan's great older homes. This is the Grace Christian Church.  If you Ski at Brian Head, you have most likely passed this Church it is on 200 South.

Darcy and I were in Parowan this morning checking to make sure that the water pipes were okay in a property that we manage, when we realized that there are a lot of great B&B's in Iron County, we were also photographing some historic home in Parowan for another blog and thought that we would highlight these two B&B's in Parowan that are in historic homes. This is the Victorian Rose Country Inn on the Northwest Corner of Main and Center Streets in Parowan. Web site: www.victorianrosecountryinn.com. This is Victoria's Bed and Breakfast.  It is on the Southeast Corner of 100 East and 100 North in Parowan. Web Site: www.utahretreat.com These are just two of the great options available if you're interested in staying in a bed & breakfast in Parowan.

My mother was born and raised in Parowan, Utah.  There are some great old homes in Parowan that I have admired my entire life.  We thought that we would highlight some of them as we have done some of our local subdivisions.  I hope that you enjoy them! This is the Coates Cottage, it is used occasionally as a recepting center among other things, it is currently listed at $209K This is another of the great historic homes in Parowan. I have always loved the porch on this home! This home was originally My Great-Aunt's home. These are just a few of the great historic homes that can be found if one wanders through the streets in Parowan.  Darcy and I wanted to give you an idea of the beautiful ambience that is Parowan.  There may be another blog forthcoming with other beautiful, historic home...

This is another distance photo only this one is of Parowan, Utah.  Parowan is approximately 15 miles North of Cedar City.  I thought that I would take photos of some of the smaller towns that we work in.  Parowan is the County Seat of Iron County and is often called the "Mother City" of Southern Utah as most of the Pioneers that settled other communities came from or started from Parowan.  This photograph is taken from Old Highway 91 South West of Parowan. Parowan is another town whose name comes from a Native American word, this time it means evil water or bad water.  There is a lake west of town called the Little Salt Lake, it is mostly a dry lake, but in times past, it did have water, which was bad: Much like most of Iron County, Parowan is another jewel along Interstate 15.  As you ...

Darcy and I noticed something that reminded us that we're not living in a big city.  We drove down the Mountain from Brian Head to Parowan and this is what we saw.  The Building on the left is the Parowan Swimming Pool, the photos were taken at the Lion's Park in Parowan. Yes there are 3 head of cattle grazing at the Parowan City Park.  Okay there are 2 cows and a calf!  This you don't see in the Big City!

I know that it is supposed to be speechless Sunday, but I just had to include one of the more famous draws to our area.  The Parowan Gap Petroglyphs, they date back hundreds of years and experts have offered several opinions as to what they mean.  I like the explanation that it is some sort of ancient planetarium with the glyphs indicating changes of the seasons anyway here are some of the photos: These are in a fenced in area.  To get there go west from 400 North Main Street in Parowan about 11 miles.  Enjoy this facinating trip back in time and culture!

If you're planning on flying into Parowan between August 1st and the middle of September, you may be diverted to Cedar City or another airport.  Parowans airport will be closed to resurface the runway.  This is a project funded by the FAA and is a good thing for the airport.  So if you are flying in, make sure to call ahead to see if the airport will be open or not!  While you're thinking about Parowan, there are some great houses available for sale in the city.  If you're looking for that home to stay in while you ski Brian Head, Parowan is a great place to buy!  It is a nice smaller community with that hometown feel that we all like, but is relatively close to everything in Southern Utah.      If you're looking to buy or sell real estate in Parowan, Cedar City or anywhere else in the ...
