This is the logo I designed for my new products, T & Totes, bumper stickers and for sweatshirts for the winter.  I am committed to work and do my part to keep this beautiful place green and natural.  Last year I did the photo note cards with wildflowers and wild critters and this year I am doing the  wearables and a cotton tote to replace plastic grocery bags.  What do you think? No matter how difficult it is to get things made in the USA I am determined to TRY to work locally and use other local small businesses in Nelson and other nearby counties for my business needs like printing.

You know what?  The world's newest profession is one  that 'trend forward' realtors will come to embrace in a flat hurry.  The reason they will come around is that with inventory being an all time high and sales slowing, they Have to get smarter and more creative.  Photos, real estate shows, virtual tours will force the most intransigent, stubborn, resistant-to-change realtor to buck up and get real!  Two houses of the same price ,in the same neighborhood, one staged and sparkling, and one cluttered and dirty, what is the question?  Buyers have choices and lots of them.  We have bought and sold all kinds of property over the last 15 years and I can tell you that when I find a good realtor I stick with them forever.  Realtors need to recognize that stagers are the sharpest knife in the d...

We had finally found, we thought, a truly squirrel-proof bird feeder.  Lasted all winter with nothing but birds.  Then the spring squirrel crop was born.  We had not counted on baby raiders getting into the sunflower seed.  Does he not look guilty?  Not that I would actually try anthropomorphizing, but he does look like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.  He is an innocent, but just another way nature humbles my opinion of myself. We will miss him when he is too big to fit through the 1" wire squares.  The birds will be grateful.  Yesterday a  cat tried to eat him, rather catch him first, and then eat him but as the cat chased the little one up the tree the cat was stuck with all four paws hugging the tree for dear life.  Harry, the cat(he is mute) couldn't get up or down and ...

A "HAMLET" as a designation, for a populated group in a specific geographic area, is technically a farmstead, or a group of farmsteads as defined by old English tradition.  It can be small, in acres or miles, or it can be spread out over quite a distance of miles.  A hamlet in English tradition had no church to unify the inhabitants of the roughly defined area.  It has no public water, no unifying roads, no official boundries and for this reason does not reach the level of village status.  We do have a post office at the top of Afton Mountain and that is about our only unifying factor.  The train station and post office were put in place in 1859. The railroad was in contention between the Union and the Confederacy during the civil war because of its strategic value as a trade route.Afto...

One of the aspects of home staging that I enjoy the most is that each home, each homeowner, realtor  and the personal dynamics that come into play in what can be a stressful situation, fascinate me.  For that reason, and for the fact that personality quirks on the part on all the players ,along with changing homeowner situations make for a continually new experience.  On top of that no two days are even remotely alike.  Some people thrive on routine, predictability and a steady continuum. I never understood that.  Home staging is really dynamic and suits me to a tee.Not only do decorating styles change, what colors are in or out, what makes something  "dated."  You know dated when you see it, and the homeowner may not see it that way.  I don't know about anyone else , but I can walk int...

Nelson County, Virginia has come of age.  I was born here and it was , at that time, one of the poorest counties in the U. S. and it was the poorest in Virginia.  We installed the first traffic light in the county last year.  This is not the only sign that things have changed, despite the fact that there is still no countywide DSL to promote economic development. The "outside world"  has discovered the stunning, natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains which so defines and characterizes  Nelson Couty.  People from everywhere are moving in literally from the four corners of the world. This has created an interface between what is "city" and what is "rural."  Folks hereabouts like to rest their eyes on the rolling pastures and along the hardwood treelines surrounding them.  Barns, hay st...
