First my thoughts on the $700,000,000,000 bail out... I told you so! Read my blog post from 12-2007 entitled: SIV= Imagine Enron, Bank Wide. (I posted it on my more frequent, but less polished blog on ActiveRain) The #1 problem is OFF-BOOKS accounting! All of these sub-prime loans are hidden. Nobody knows how much exposure all the banks have. Secondly, people have been emailing me asking what I've been up to and why I haven't posted more frequently. Well, as some of you might know I'm in night school at Washington College of Law at American University. (I should be reading right now actually) Oh and I also got married! Anyhow, don't fear. I'm still sharing my thoughts, but more so over at my WheelEstateCam on Youtube. I attached the camera to my steering wheel and I take you for a spin ...

From Business Week, yet another survey. Certainly, every week, minimally, someone else releases more statistics. While I don't know where these stats are from, I'm not sure this set means much. Arlington, VA did make the list, as Business Week's 18th fastest housing market in the country currently. Sure, but this data is only looking at one zip code. It shows a median price very close to $1million, with a 0.6% increase in price from one year ago. From my personal experience, I can show examples on both sides of this increase/decrease. With regards to 100 days on the market, lets agree that's a problem. A well priced (not cheap, but realistic) will surely sell in much much less time than 100 days. Much less than even half of 100 days. Data can be used to show anything; as for 18th fastes...

Nestled along the banks of the mighty Potomac River, Arlington, Virginia is a vibrant city on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. Arlington is most widely regarded as home to the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. But there is so much more to this area. Its neighborhoods have won awards for their managed growth policies and implementation. Residents are actively involved in their community, reflected in Arlington's more than one hundred community service groups, fifty civic associations, and dozens of citizen boards and commissions. Arlington is composed of five distinct urban neighborhoods, with the highest density housing areas concentrated around the Metro stops in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor and Jefferson Davis corridor. The city combines a diverse population, world-class res...

If you are good about making sure you remove the dryer lint before every load of laundry, you may be skeptical about the idea of having a professional cleaning of your dryer vents done every year.   It could be that when you pull the filter out there's not too much stuck to it. Besides, as long as you make sure it's clean all the time, the whole rest of the system must be clean too, right? Wrong!   The truth is there is a lot of lint that you don't see both in your dryer and in the line leading from the dryer out of your home. While you can't see it, that doesn't mean it's not a problem. Just like the lint you can see, this hidden lint can pile up and slow down the drying process, costing you more time and money per load, and even worse... be a fire threat.   Want a little more proof? G...

A real estate assessment is Arlington County's appraisal of the value of each piece of real property located in Arlington. Arlington County's website explains how they performed the 2008 Assessments; their description is below:  The 2008 assessment is an estimate of the fair market value as of January 1, 2008. Residential assessments were based primarily on neighborhood sales occurring from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007, and further refined using sales occurring in the summer and fall of 2007.  The real estate tax rate determines the amount of the tax which is levied on the property.  A uniform tax rate for all real property is set by the Arlington County Board.Tax rates in Arlington are expressed in dollars per one hundred dollars of assessed value.  For example, in 2007 a tax ra...

With Labor Day weekend approaching very rapidly, and BBQs planned, I thought I would provide an overview of Arlington County Regulations about appliances on your balcony.   The Arlington County's Fire Prevention Office says: "Residents in high-rises, duplexes, townhouses and multi-family dwellings are reminded that cooking on balconies, with any flame producing device, is prohibited by County Code. Only electric cookers and electric grills are allowed on balconies of these type of occupancies.  Read more. No charcoal cooker, brazier, hibachi, grill or any gasoline or other flammable or combustible liquid or liquefied petroleum gas-fired stove or similar device except for electric cookers or grills shall be ignited or used on the balconies of any apartment building, stacked units, or oth...

Today we can unveil the sales price and share with you another satisfied customer is roaming the street of Arlington Virginia. After several months of worry and wonder on whether or not we could move this property and several price reductions we finally got it sold! $362,000.00 was our final close price with no seller subsidy. Ironically the tenants were moving out what turned out to be 1 week before settlement so perhaps there was some divine intervention for my sellers. The building is located in downtown Arlington , neighborhood known as Ballston, and is walking distance to Golds Gym, the Metro, and the shops and restaurants of The Ballston Mall.  Here is the slideshow again to give you a visual on this amazing property: http://slideshow.mris.com/slideshow.cfm?ListingKey=10446355975....

On Wednesday I received an email from UrbanTurf.com'seditor Mark Wellborn, asking for some information about Arlington's hotspot: Clarendon. Thrilled with the idea of contributing to the article, I jumped on a response! UrbanTurf describes themselves as: "a free online publication that ... takes a very intimate look at just the DC Metro area, getting down to the neighborhood level to analyze real estate in different parts of the city, Maryland, and Virginia." It's a great starting place for information on the local area. From neighborhoods, to restaurants, bars, etc. it's a great place to start some research!  Read the full article here.  Oh, and p.s. he found me here on ActiveRain! Another successful blogging story

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 There is a saying in the world of environmental sustainability: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle-in that order. What does that mean when it comes to replacing your countertops when you remodel your kitchen. Of course Formica countertops are oh, so passé. Corian has also gone out of fashionable favor. Formica is plastic coated with a resin made with formaldehyde and Corian is petroleum based. So, neither of these is very environmentally favorable. Granite is a "with it" alternative and it's, well, natural, right? Natural yes, but questionable quarrying practices and the high energy costs of shipping such heavy material make granite a less than sustainable choice. So what's a consumer to do? Here are some great alternative countertop choices that are both beautiful, and env...

Located just 3.5 miles from Washington, D.C., Cherrydale is a small community of predominately small, well maintained, single family homes. Cherrydale got its name from Dorsey Donaldson, who was inspired by the large cherry orchards around the area - today, only a few of the original cherry orchards survived, and most are on private property. It is centered on the intersection known as the Five Points consisting of Quincy Street, Military Road, and Old Dominion Road, which is intersected by Lee Highway. The small town neighborhood feel of Cherrydale, has homes from as early as the Civil War. According to the 1980 Census, about 35% of the homes were built before 1940. The neighborhood has the following house styles: 2-story Farm, colonial, bungalows, and more. Many have been renovated in...

In the book about Vince Lombardi's famous quotes and lifestyle approach, he once told his Green Bay Packers the following: "No one is perfect, but boys, making the effort to be perfect...is what life is all about...If you'll not settle for anything less than the best, you will be amazed at what you can do with your lives." With the fall approaching, and new leaves turning - perhaps it's time to revise some old methods or systems, or try some new ones. Whether Football, or your career - try, try again!!
