We see signs all around Virginia that say "George Washington Slept Here" but unless you take a step often the beaten path you won't find some of the other signs and sties that helped shape our nation.  One of those signs is hidden in Fairfax Station at the St. Mary of Sorrows Church just off of Route 123. St Mary of Sorrows Church was built from 1858-1860 with lumber milled locally by railroad workers living in the area. The only item that was purchased to complete the church was the bell installed in the tower. In 1862 one of the worst battles of the Civil War, The Second Battle of Manassas, had thousands of Union and Confederate soldiers battling for control of the area.  With the Fairfax Railroad Depot only a few miles down the road, soldiers from the Second Battle of Manassas were t...

Marina Landing is the first mixed used development project fronting the Occoquan River. With it's prime location in North Woodbridge, within walking distance of a Virginia Rail Express (VRE) station, less than a mile off of I-95 and within 10 miles of the influx of personnel headed to Fort Belvoir, the development offers residents and business owners an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the future growth of the area. Named by the Washington Business Journal as one of the top local areas to watch and by the Washington Post as a hidden gem on the Occoquan River, Belmont Bay already offers residents a rare combination of commuting convenience and resort style living. Northern Virginia is dotted with churches that hold memories of the United States Civil War that raged on their property and outside their doors.  The Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fairfax Station is one of those churches. Originally the land where the white wooden church now stands was Payne’s Church founded in 1766 by agreement with the Church of England and the parish founded by George Washington.  After the Revolutionary War properties owned by the Church of England were now property of the “state” and could be used as places of worship by other denominations.  Payne's Church was the first brick church built in Fairfax County which made it even more unique. The Jerusalem Baptist church congregation formed in 1840 and was given use of the original Payne’s Church building for their serv...
