Driving past this barn my first thought was "oh good a photo opportunity."  But when I pulled onto the gravel road I realized I had found a new piece of Civil War history I didn't know about.This barn is on the site of what is known as Slaughter Pen Farm.  The name unfortunately stems from December 13, 1862 when 5,000 Union soliders were killed in a battle with Confederate troops in the First Battle of Fredericksburg This property is now being saved from development by the Civil War Trust (CWT) and is marked with historic plaques explaining the details of this pivotal battle in Fredericksburg.  The property is comprised of just over 200 acres and was the largest private battlefield purchase ever made in the United States.  03/03/2013

  What’s really nice when You live in an 55+ Active Adult Retirement Community and your sitting in the community center and start talking about someone or something that happened back in the 50’s,60’s or even in the 70’s and everyone at your table knows what you’re talking about.   My wife and I have a family gathering at a restaurant between Fredericksburg and Gainesville once a month with my 2 daughters and a grandson that we raised. You won't believe what the biggest complaint from people in a active adult community is. There's just not enough time in the day. Between spending time with people that I have now become good friends with and all of the activities that I want to do, there's just not enough time in the day. Mornings I may either spend time in our heated olymic sized indoor swimming poolby joining the arobics class or I may just swim on my own. Or maybe I'll join folks out on the tennis courts. Usually there are residents  playing tennis and there's always room for one more. Once I 'm through working out, I can get a coffee or tea and just sit at one of the tables in our main room and enjoy the topic of conversation for the day. A typical day at the pool in Falls Run, VA, a 55+Active Adult Retirement Community. Water aerobics classes are held every weekday in our heated indoor pool. Every Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning from either 7:30 am or at 9:00 am, you could spend time in our heated 4 lane Olympic size swimming pool with many of our other residents. On Tuesday and Thursday they only have one class at 7:30 am. Many of our residents have told me these classes have become an important part of their life. On Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:00 PM, 2 lanes are reserved for residents taking our strength building classes in the pool. As always with any of our planned activities in our pool, 2 lanes are left open for any residents that want to just swim in our heated pool. Children are allowed to use the pool ... 12/26/2012

But here in Falls Run by Del Webb an +55 active adult retirement community our residents enjoy a 16,000 sq ft community center with an Olympic-size heated indoor pool plus a Jacuzzi, lighted tennis courts, and an outdoor pool with walking paths throughout the community.  Inside we have a large fitness center (1800 sq ft).  We also have a game room with pool and card tables where you find many of our residents enjoying themselves.  We have a large social room that can be divided into 3 rooms for private use or kept open for our many social functions.
