I lived in Clifton for years before moving to Warrenton and enjoyed lunch regularly at Thursday's.  To my delight they opened in Gainesville.  If you haven't tried them yet ... From my standpoint, this is  the most beautiful time of year and I encourage you to get the family together and enjoy either a day of  apple pickin', one of the areas harvest celebrations, corn maze or pumpkin patch scouring when you venture into Virginia's countryside. And, yes there is an end in sight.  Have you noticed that all the businesses on the  south bound lane of 29 in Gainesville have been closed and boarded up and wondered what's happening.  In August, VOT began moving utilties on Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) as part of the $198 million I-66/Rt. 29/Linton Hall Road improvement.  Actual road construction won't  begin until 2011 with scheduled completion in 2014.  The two year utility relocation and building demolition phase precedes the four-year construction project scheduled to begin in spring 2011 that will:  elevate Linton Hall Road over Route 29 elevate Route 29 over the railroad tracks construct bridges over Galleher Road and the railroad tracks at Route 29 add a lane on Route 29 from I-66 to Virginia Oaks Drive, and build new ramp... 10/14/2008

  In 1998 the Prince William County Board of Supervisors set aside approximately 80,000 acres to be known as the Rural Crescent.  The Prince William Conservation Alliance Map highlights the covered area in black.  Generally, it is the lands south of the Route 234 corridor and west of Route 15.  Some properties - Dominion Valley, South Market and Bristoe Village were excluded. Several properties in the designated area were already developed prior to the decision to limit residential development to one home per ten acres.  Also, there is land that appears to be included in the restriction, but it had already been approved for higher density development = it could be built on with higher density than one home per ten acres. Today was a first.  I was having lunch at Pei Wei...the Asian Diner by P.F. Chang's.  Our own Gainesville, VA locaiton opened up about a month or so ago.   The service was great.  The restaurant was clean with plenty of seating.  A little noisy for a business meeting though.  Most of our business chat happened in the parking lot after our meal. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Shrimp platter.  There were more shrimp than this when it was brought to the table, but I was more hungry than I was motivated to take a picture. The shrimp were great.  The sauce was just about perfect.  And I really liked the fact that I got a lot of pineapple, green pepper and onion.     My friend ordered a vegetarian Spicy Thai Noodle Bowl with Tofu.  Of course, we shared.  While I am not a big fan of tofu, I did... 10/08/2008

This is something that got my blood pumping today.  My Mom called and sounded panicked.  She said Route 66 had collapsed on Route 29 (a major intersection in Gainesville, VA).    She couldn't find any news about it on the local television stations. I jumped in the car, camera in hand, to see what had happened.  Nothing quite as dramatic as a collapse of a running freeway, onto a major highway.  This is an insection that is frequently closed due to construction.  What happened was a construction girder collapsed onto Route 29, from a non-open section of Route 66.  Still the photo is rather sacry looking.
