The annual meeting of the Mountain View Shores Home Owners Association will take place on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 1 PM at Patmos United Methodist Church, 1405 Patmos Church Road in Huddleston, Virginia. Voting for upcoming board members is scheduled. All residents are encouraged to attend. I enjoy living fulltime at Smith Mountain Lake and was invited to join the Nextdoor.com page for  Mountain View Shores. It's an online social network much like Facebook, but private to our neighborhood. This is a quiet community and Nextdoor been a nice way to get to know our neighbors. You can receive notifications either by email or on your smartphone, and there are apps for android and iPhone. We knew at Halloween which neighbors were offering candy. And at Christmas, which homes were decorating. So much helpful information has been posted on the MVS page: referrals for trademen, upcoming yard sales, lost animals and canoes, safety issues, neighborhood activities and the recent issue affecting short term rentals at the lake.   Many lake properties are vacation homes and those owners... 02/13/2014
