In June 2007, HomesByOwner of Lynchburg began syndicating home listings from Google Base, which is fed by all of the other major FSBO websites (ForSaleByOwner, Owners, AllTheListings, etc.)  As a result, home buyers in Lynchburg and Central Virginia who are interested in viewing current FSBO homes only need to visit the HomesByOwner of Lynchburg site in order to see the homes from all of the other FSBO sites. In November 2007, we added the "Buyer Match" program which sends home buyers (or real estate agents) an e-mail every few days listing all of the FSBO homes that have been added or changed on the HomesByOwner site, as well as all of the other FSBO sites.  I have been excited about the response that we've gotten to this e-mail alert program, because it gives home buyers (and real esta...

What a successful Open House we had this Sunday! A big thank you goes out to Ann Koch of Dewitt Real Estate for planning and organizing the Neighborhood Open House at Leesville Road Estates in Evington. Ann put together an awesome full page ad with a St. Patrick's Day theme. Fourteen homes were held open by six different brokerages. The weather was great, there was a steady stream of cars and people. My broker had 30 groups come through her listing and I had at least 24 groups come through Lot 21 David's Way.  It's all about selling our listings and I love the spirit of cooperation that was shown by Lynchburg area Realtors. Thanks Ann! Posted by:Debbie Malone, Realtor   RE/MAX 1st Olympic 20395 Timberlake Rd Lynchburg VA 24502(434) 546-0369   malone1981@aol.com

I want to give a shout out to my friend Rich Edwards. Rich is a Mortgage Loan Officer with the Bank of the James in Lynchburg, Virginia. We served on the Lynchburg Association of Realtors Community Outreach Committee together last year. Rich is very involved in our local community and headed up the effort to raise funds to purchase baby beds for infants who were too ill to travel in car seats.     As I was sitting at my open house this afternoon, wishing I had grabbed a water bottle, Rich stopped by with a box of goodies. He follows the open houses in town and spends his Sunday afternoons delivering these packages to many of the agents. I can expect to get a visit from him every time and I appreciate the support he shows to the local realtor. He is one of the people that make living in ...

My daughter Kat is a junior in the Residential Property Management program at Virginia Tech. This was the first  Residential Property Management bachelor's-degree program in the country and was started in 1996. Dr. Rosemary Goss was named its first professor and she is still the head of the program. The annual Collegiate Jobs Fair just wrapped up today. Kat attended the fair last year and got a summer internship in Charlottesville. Though she didn't get credit hours, she gained the experience these companies were looking for. I'm so impressed by the professors at VT; I never thought my daughter would consider property management, too many days spent cleaning up after evicted tenants. But she has really thrived in this program. Dr. Rosemary Goss has been so influential as have many of the...

You can go to the big box stores in town and buy plumbing supplies, but you're not going to get the customer service like they provide at Hooper Plumbing on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg.  We've been doing business with Hooper's for over 20 years and they've saved us time and money on so many occasions. Whenever my husband would do a plumbing repair and needed a special tool, Hooper's lent him one at no charge. We recently finished a complete remodel on a home that has a well. We bought a pump at Hooper's about 6 months ago but within a week of the new tenant moving in, they had no water. My husband went to Hooper's for advice and Dave said let's go check it out. He drove over to the property, helped my husband pull the pump and figured out what the problem was- at no charge! If you're l...

Cead Mile Failte' - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes.   Happy St Patricks Day! If you ever have the opportunity to travel to Ireland, you won't be disappointed. Ireland is a beautiful country whose population is increasing and economy is thriving. I often think of our ancestors who left during the famine with the hope of a better life in Canada and America. Our families were from County Cork but even if you're not Irish by birth (Like St. Patrick himself), get into the spirit and wear some green this weekend!       Blarney Castle, Getting Ready To Kiss The Stone View of the Bay in Cobh, formerly Queenstown, last stop for Titanic     In Dublin, make a stop at Trinity College. This post puts me over the 100,000-point mark, which is cool, but not as cool as spending a week in sunny Florida with my girls, Kat & Megan.  Yes, Spring Break with the Malone's is a bit on the mild side, not many college students are heading to Kissimmee, but that's okay. Both girls will be in college next year at this time and they're both going in different directions for the summer. They are growing more independent each day and this trip was one way to bond and re-connect.  The thing I love about traveling with these two (other than they can share the 12 hour drive) is that they're easy to get along with. Not one spat the entire week!                                Yes, there was heavy drinking ( At Dunkin' Donuts!) Universal Studio's has a great deal: a seven day pass for $79.99 ...

This year marks the 75th Anniversary of Historic Garden Week in Virginia. Over two hundred homes across Virginia will be opened to the public during this week. I've been attending this event in Lynchburg since I moved to Virginia in 1987 and it's the highlight of my spring! Sponsored by The Lynchburg Garden Club and Hillside Garden Club, several local homes and gardens are opened to the public and it's a delight to walk through perfectly manicured gardens and beautifully decorated homes.  This year, Garden Day in Lynchburg is Tuesday, April 22, 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. The following homes will be on the tour:4411 BOONSBORO ROAD1628 LINDEN AVENUE1013 HARRODS COURT1450 TRENTS FERRY ROAD1340 WAKEFIELD ROAD In addition, the following will be opened at no additional charge: Point of Honor and Swe...

Several local realtors and I have been frustrated that we couldn't seem to counter the negative national press on the housing market and have become proactive in getting the good news out. I recently wrote a couple of posts about the positive aspects of the local Lynchburg housing market. We've been largely unaffected by the sub-prime crisis. We rank 34 out of 291 metro markets in the country. We have a stable economic base and property has appreciated 45% in the last five years.People in your community are reading your localism posts. A college student who also happens to be a producer at WSET, our local ABC station, contacted me. I was interviewed by her last week and will do the on camera interview next week for her report Lynchburg: A Housing Market NOT In Crisis. Activerain and Loc...

What a great report to see on the front page of Wednesday's News and Advance. The regions population growth is increasing: since 2000, Lynchburg's population has grown by almost 7%. The Wyndhurst community has had a substantial impact on the growth in the city of Lynchburg. In a related article, the City Council and Planning Commission are working to reach a comprehensive plan to deal with denser growth in the city. Nine percent of the city's vacant land has been developed since 2000. With the new Cornerstone development under construction on Greenview Drive, the population is sure to continue to rise.    Bedford County, Virginia                                  Cornerstone- new Planned CommunityThe UVA demographic report from the Weldon Cooper Center shows local increases of:Amherst Co...
