Whew it has been a whirlwind the past few months and I can't complain.  I started with New American Mortgage in the beginning of March and had more successes in the past few months I think than in my whole career as a mortgage consultant in the past 6 years.  I am so greatful for the quick success but sad for the amount of time it has taken me from my young and growing family. As most of you know I have a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old little boys. I have spent many evenings lately working and doing events with my referral partners. I work so hard now so I won't have to in a few years.  Last night I went to an event and made some great connections in the community but didn't get home until 9:30 and my 4yr old was still awake waiting for me.  I will be away from them Wed, Thurs and probably Fri...

What does a Hampton Roads realtor do all day? STORY #1:  Monday was a wonderful and wild day.  I was thrilled to meet my new clients. Our day started at 9:30 so that we could review buyer disclosures and purchase contract information. Next, we moved onto the part every client loves, HOME SHOPPING!!! My clients chose 9 homes they wanted to see - 2 were under-contract and 2 were short-sales. I also decided that while we were in the area I might as well see what else was for sale. I pulled an additional 32 homes and we settled on 2 more to see. With the tour ready and 7 homes to see that day, we set off to Hickory. It's funny as it seems a bit like a goldilocks story. TOO BIG, TOO SMALL, JUST RIGHT! After getting to Upton Farms and viewing the homes, we narrowed it down to the best 2. We d...

You're all excited!  It's a beautiful day,  you've gotten pre-approved, you've met a great Realtor!  It's 9 am on Saturday....the kids are with grandma, you and hubby meet at the Realtor's office, you hop in the car.... You drive up in front of the first of 5 homes you're going to see today.  Now what?  Are you prepared?  Will you like the home? Will it have everything you want? Everything you've been dreaming of?  ??? When going out to view properties, here are some things to keep in mind: 1. Preview homes on your Realtors website or www.VaHomeConnect.com.  Many listings have lots of pictures, virtual tours and this is a good way to know what you're going to look at for the day. 2. BEFORE the first appoinment, make a list of your must haves and cannot live withouts.  Be sure your Realt...

Thanks Tina Merritt and all the volunteers and sponsors who put on a successful REbar Camp here in Virginia Beach.  Otherwise known as #REBCVB  This was my first experience - I had been able to lurk in on a few of the other ones around the country thanks to the Dakno guys Bobby and Brad Carroll.  But being able to experience the excitement, sharing and networking in person was invaluable! I got the great pleasure of meeting some great bloggers, social media, facebook friends and twitterers that I have been networking with for years and already had the connection with but meeting in person was so much fun! I was getting hugs from all of them - it didn't even bother me because I already knew so much about them and had created the relationships online.  These online connections ARE real - ...

WOW,  I am at #REBCVB in Virginia Beach, this is brand new to me and it looks like it's new to just about everyone in the room.   Lots of discussion on the uses of social networking and the usage of Facebook and Twitter.  The biggest discussion so far is about personalizing your blog and discussions versus making it too much about a service you might be trying to sell.  There is a guy here they call the realestate zebra.  He has on an interesting jacket and seems to be the go to guy. Tina Merrit is here running the show and as always she is awesome.  Some other people here are in there 70's,,,good for them!  I  will let you know at the end of the day what I got out of this camp.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR MONTHLY PAYMENT     So are you ready to be a homeowner? One thing to consider in preparing for this huge step is the added expense.  I am not trying to scare you but there is more than your mortgage payment to be prepared for.  As a renter you pay your rent $1000 a month and probably utilities.      As a homeowner you pay PITI. ( Principle, Interest, Taxes and Insurance) Principle -the amount you owe to the lender - loan amount paid out over a period of time ( usually 30 yrs) Interest -the cost of borrowing the money ( interest rate) Taxes - Property Taxes Insurance - Homeowners Insurance and sometimes flood insurance At New American Mortgage we offer a FREE Mortgage Consultation for you!

Thank you to Patrick Veverka for bringing this to my attention! "Amber and David Spisak Sr., a young Virginian couple were out having dinner with their two children; Molly who is four years old and David Jr., who is only two years old. During dinner, David Jr. began to develop small red spots on his arms and legs and before long, the spots had grown in size and eventually covered the young child’s entire body. The family quickly rushed their child to the Emergency Room. The doctors there told them that they thought they knew what it was, but they had to take him to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters facility immediately. Within hours, the young couple was told that their two-year-old David Jr. had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Medical professionals immediately admitted him and ...

Back in March of '09 I had written a blog regarding "have we hit bottom yet in the Housing Market?" This of  course was our local area that we were referencing. The area includes Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Isle of Wight, Hampton, Newport News, York County and all surrounding areas of Va!  My answer then was a definite Maybe??!! "Have we hit Bottom yet in our Housing market?!" On July 6th, 2009 I'm ready to announce a very definite Probably??!! The problem in determining a "for sure" knowledge that we've already hit bottom in the Housing market is when 3 things happen: 1) Prices of Homes start increasing in value. 2) Interest rates begin to move upward. 3)Inventory of Homes start decreasing. Then it's too late! Our local MLS (REIN) statistics have shown tha...

We just finished tackling a bathroom remodel in our home.  It didnt sound to tough when my wife and I talked about it, that's funny.  We contracted with a plumber and a Tile Contractor, I can do the demo with my 12 year old son, how hard can it be?  Oh my Lord!  At first its not bad you kind of carefully take it apart and then quickly realize that it was built in the 60's and was not designed to come apart.  Just tear it all out, walls, floor, its all got to go.  We quickly realized the floor damage that was next to the iron bathtub, pull up all the floor, down to the beams.  When the house was originally built it had a floor furnace, this means chimney, and it's in this bathroom.  Tear out the wall and start removing the bricks.  Our plumber came in and did all his plumbing stuff, then...

My daughter suffers from asthma and went undiagnosed for 4 years.  Thankfully she does not have a severe case.  Since 22 million Americans young and old suffer from this epidemic I decided to devote my spare time in helping fight it.  Asthma is not always noticeable and there is likely someone close to you that suffers.  The Hampton Roads Healthy Lungs & Air Walk is September 26, 2009 at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, registration begins at 9 and the walk at 10.  Our goal is to raise $50,000 towards education, research, and advocacy. Come out on September 26th and support.  You can always go to www.lungusa.com to learn more about asthma and ways you can support the American Lung Association.  Please visit my personal fundraising page and help me rais money for The American Lung Asso...

Moving to Virginia Beach due to military orders? You just received your orders to transfer to NAS Oceana, Dam Neck, NOB or any of the other bases in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Now you need to determine your next step. A military relocation to a new city can be very stressful, and in some cases complicate. After all you are packing up your family, your property, and saying good-bye to friends and family, then moving it to a new home possibly across the country. This is no easy task! My job, as a military relocation specialist, is to help make the entire process as easy as possible. To work with you and your family to find that PERFECT place that you can call home.
