This week, my fiance and I were able to participate in a very rewarding volunteer effort at our local church.   A few weeks ago I posted a blog about the Community of Faith Mission. The Community of Faith Mission operates to help the local homeless community.  The specific tasks are to  provide food and shelter for the local homeless population during the winter months. Our church began their week on Sunday evening March 13th and will finish on Sunday morning, March 20th. Walt and I volunteered on Sunday and Wednesday.  Sunday evening we helped with the sign in process.  The founders of the mission have a sign in sheet.  Each guest is assigned a number from the mission, believe me they all know their number.  After they have signed in, they put any of their personal items that aren't ne...

A prospective tenant drove to Williamsburg from Kansas this weekend and we met at the office on Monday.  Her husband is going to be an army recruiter in the area. We do not have a large inventory of rental property in our local MLS, so after I showed her one rental property I showed her six houses for sale over the next two days.   She and her husband have decided they want to buy a house instead of renting.  The payments on this house will be quite a bit less than they would be paying in rent.  If this works out it will be a win win situation!   They have been really happy with my work and said they will send me more military referrals!

If you are in the Williamsburg area there are three venues for movies.   The Movie Tavern at High Street is a movie theatre that has a restaurant.  It is a unique experience where the patrons can have dinner and watch the first run movies at the same time.   The Regal New Town Cinema is a traditional movie venue with twelve theatres. Finally The Kimball Theatre located in Merchant Square in Colonial Williamsburg offers plays, live entertainment and sometimes has vintage movies.

According to an article in Forbes Magazine these are the five habits of persuasive people:  1. Know your audience. 2. Don't be pushy. 3. Use positive body language. 4. Acknowledge the other person's point of view.5. Be clear and concise. As REALTORS, we would be wise to follow these habits. Real estate is a business that is about relationships.  These habits are part of building good relationships.   To sell your WILLIAMSBURG area home as quickly as possible or find your dream home, contact Sybil Campbell

I left Williamsburg to go on a short vacation with my family on Wednesday.  I had a closing today on this listing at 4289 Boxwood Lane.  It has not been an easy transaction since the sellers moved across the country during December and were not always easily accessible.  They had a death in the family shortly after arriving in California and had to drive to New Mexico for a funeral before even getting settled in to their new location of Temecula, California.

I just had a nice dinner with my fiance!  We ate at Seasons Restaurant which is located at the corner of Francis and North Henry Street in Colonial Williamsburg.  We shared a bottle of wine.  My fiance had a cup of the New England seafood chowder.  I had crab cakes as an entree.  He had Boston blackened chicken and shrimp served over pasta. To view their website and menu click on this link.

The home inspection was completed two weeks ago and the termite and moisture inspection showed no evidence of termite or moisture damage.    My sellers are excited that the house went under contract so quickly and I'm happy for them.   Soon there will be a new owner living in this home in Williamsburg Virginia:

Today while thumbing through a local health journal, I saw a familiar face.  In the picture I saw an acquaintence who is one of the co-founders of the Community of Faith Mission, a ministry dedicated to providing necessities to the local homeless community.  This ministry provides two meals a day and shelter to local homeless persons for eighteen weeks during the winter. The article states that there thirty two faith based organizations in the area participate in this ministry.  On a rotating basis these groups provide food, volunteers and the facility to shelter the homeless. Williamsburg has a large population of service workers, many of whom support the local tourism industry.  Many of these jobs are seasonal and low paying. Add in the lack of affordable housing in the area, and it i...

Williamsburg Virginia is known for a lot of things, but I don't think most people know that Williamsburg has a vineyard and a winery!  To visit the official website for the Williamsburg Winery click here:  Williamsburg Winery. There is a restaurant (pictured above) on the grounds.  There are also wine tastings and tours of the winery and vineyards.

This picture of a beautiful church in the snow is cool.  The snow was melting a lot so even though the sun was shining behind this church I took advantage of this scene. The church is located on Route 60 west of Williamsburg, Virginia.   It is hard to tell from this picture that this church has a red door.

Yesterday the sky was gray and the snow from winter storm Jonas was blowing sideways.       This morning we woke up to beautiful blue skies and a winter wonderland!   The skies are a beautiful sapphire blue.  The picture below is of Colonial Heritage Boulevard.  I would guess we had a total of about 7 inches between the two days.  We had about 3 inches on Friday and then sleet packed it down.  Yesterday we had another 4 or 5 inches.      The picture above is of some of residents of Wedgewood Drive.  They are shoveling a neighbor's driveway since she is out of town.  The good news is that the high should be in the 40's tomorrow and the 50's on Tuesday so the snow should melt quickly and maybe we won't have to deal with the aftermath of sand and salty ice for very long!

Winter storm Jonas is bearing down on Williamsburg and the Hampton Roads area.  Many schools in James City County and Williamsburg were closed on Friday.   Our Long and Foster office closed early.  These pictures were taken from my house about an hour after it started snowing here.  The snow flurries started about 11:00 a. m. Heavy snow started falling with strong winds at noon.  The storm is expected to cause blizzard conditions in the Washington D C area with a possible record amount of snowfall. It is beautiful and probably tempting to get out on the road, the local media are asking people to stay inside and be safe and warm.  So please don't get out on the roads unless it is an emergency!        One of the most important things to consider during a storm is how to stay safe and be p...

The weather forecast for the Williamsburg area is to get a wintry mix this weekend.  We should start getting a wintry mix on Friday afternoon. We are expected to get up to 4 inches of accumulation.  Saturday we will have snow and rain with winds out of the NNE at 23 miles per hour.  It sounds like a very chilly weekend to me!  BRRR! This is the back of a house I used to own during the snow we had storm on the Christmas weekend of 2011.

This picture was taken in February of 2012 at the James City County Recreation center.  It was taken after a yoga class by the instructor.  My good friend, Kay had brought her camera knowing that this would be our last Yoga class before I moved to Florida. Ironically, I moved back to the Williamsburg area in February of 2012 and now it looks like Kay may be moving away.  Life is unpredicatable for sure!
