The sheep will be losing their winter coats at the annual sheep shearing event at Kelsey Creek Farm Park on April 28.  The event starts at 11:00 and will continue until 4.  There is no cost to attend.  Come rain or shine the sheep will be shorn. Kelsey Creek Farm is just that, a farm located within the city limits of Bellevue.  It once was a farm and the City decided to keep it just that.  As with many farms you'll find sheep, ducks, horses, pigs, geese...well you get the idea, it's a real farm.  The animals are housed in big old white barns that have been restored and kept in tip top shape.  After all, those animals deserve a great home.  The barn is surrounded with pens, pastures and paths for animals as well as people to roam. Not only will the sheep be shorn but there will be other ...

The Bellevue Botanical Garden presents Shakespeare on August 16th FREE at Noon.  What a perfect marriage of natural beauty and classic theater art.  A perfect marriage in another wonderful way.  A marrriage of the  history of Bellevue and it’s youth.  You see if Cal and Harriet Shorts had not had a deep belief in “local community involvement” and made a gift of their home (now serving as the visitor center) and  7 1/2 acres surrounding it, to the City in 1984 , today’s 53 acre Bellevue Botanical Garden would more likely than not, be just another Bellevue housing developement. Now 27 years later The Bellevue Youth Theatre Foundation is  presenting a one hour performance of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” with actor’s that weren’t even born in Cal and Harriet Shorts lifetime. The Bellevue...

Bank of America will reportedly start working with states to use federal money to pay down the mortgage balances of struggling homeowners in AZ, NV, and CA.  This is part of the "Hardest Hit Fund", aimed at the states with the largest drops in real estate values. Let me play devil's advocate.  While we can sympathize with the intent of the program, there are some valid arguments against its implementation, in particular the "Hardest Hit" push: We're specifically targeting homeowners who are in the most extreme bubble markets.  Stats have shown repeatedly that helping the marginally struggling/underwater homeowners works far more often.  Those who are significantly struggling/underwater repeatedly default even after modifications, refinances, etc.  The effectiveness of our spending needs...

The National Association of Realtors reported existing home sales rising 5.6% in November, resuming the growth trend that we saw for most of the first half of 2010. - Existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family, townhomes, condominiums, and co-ops, rose 5.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.68 million in November from 4.43 million in October, but are 27.9 percent below the cyclical peak of 6.49 million in November 2009, which was the initial deadline for the first-time buyer tax credit. Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, is hopeful for 2011. "Continuing gains in home sales are encouraging, and the positive impact of steady job creation will more than trump some negative impact from a modest rise in mortgage interest rates, which remai...

Since we moved to the Glendale neighborhood a few years ago, and particularly since we got our puppy this spring,  we've been enjoying Wilburton Hill Park, a short distance from our home. The park is the largest upland park in the City Park system, encompassing 105 acres total, and serves as a major link in the Greenway System and Lake to Lake trails system. It has turned into our favorite park destination in Bellevue, with all it has to offer. Wilburton Hill Park has so much to offer with its two baseball diamonds, a brand new artificial turf soccer field, children's play area, various trail walks through the woods, and the Bellevue Botanical Gardens at the crown of Wilburton Hill.  This crown jewel of the Parks system features the most beautiful gardens in the City, attended to by bot...
