 Baby it's cold outside. We're waking up to a frosty 32 degrees this morning at our multigenerational home in Camas, Washington. It's hard to believe we are just a couple of days away from December. There's still left-over turkey in the refrigerator, but we needed a break and ate cauliflower crust pizza for dinner last night.  Tonight's meal is still up for debate.  We love knowing sweet gum trees  grow well in the Pacific Northwest. Also known as Liquid Amber (liquidambar styraciflua), the trees are beautiful. The leaves resemble a maple leaf, but are more deeply lobed and star-shaped.  Due to a recent change, our own sugar gum tree has taken center stage in the yard this year.  Last month, an arborist determined that our Mimosa tree, which was located near the sweet gum,  was diseased and recommended removal.  His concern, the possibility of spreading disease to the other healthy deciduous trees on our property.  Therefore, we agreed, and the tree was removed.  We were happy to discover a pleasant upside to losing the tree - opening up the yard and gaining a new view. Heinie Warmer for the Winter Months We have native, year-round Anna's hummingbirds living in the woods at our rural home in Camas, Washington. For several winters, we have used a heated feeder to make sure the tiny birds have a reliable source of nectar when the temperatures drop. Otherwise, the nectar freezes and the birds can't drink. Unfortunately, we've had bad luck with the feeders leaking.  After replacing the first one, and having the same problem, we decided to explore other options.   The one that caught our eye is called the Hummingbird Heinie Warmer.  Admittedly, it's a bit of a curiosity during the day, but as the daylight fades, it comes to life and gets prettier and prettier. I, Debb, am beyond thrilled to have our San Francisco grandkids back in the area. Some days, I'm just giddy. This weekend, I was giddy-up! This is 12-year old Skyler. She is taking riding lessons from a beautiful place in Sherwood, Oregon, called Rolling Rock Farm. It's about a 50 minute drive from our house in Camas. I know very little about riding horses, but this Oma thinks she looks like a natural in the saddle. By the way, this is only her third lesson. Afterall, they only appear on October 31, every nineteen years.  Even though this moon shot was taken this morning, once I got the video into editing, strange things started appearing. Camas Home Sales Report In spite of the COVID-19 shutdown, home sales in Camas are brisk. Pending sales last month were up 6.2% over last year at this time.  There were 80 closed sales and overall inventory in Clark County is still low at 1.6 months. Even with more new homes coming on the market, prices continue on a steady rise. The annual percentage increase in sales price was 7.5% for the month. This bodes well for sellers thinking about putting their home on the market.  Even fall and winter months are good times to sell. Camas offers a small town atmosphere with close proximity to city amenities and services - all without the traffic jams!
