10 Most Forgotten Items During A Move It sounds silly that you could possibly leave something behind when you move. It can happen when it is the last item to be packed. A good rule of thumb is that the last things that you use are likely to be those that are forgotten, so make sure to do a final check through the house before leaving.  As you are packing in the days leading up to the move, make a checklist of the items you need to remember to pack. If all else fails, use the following checklist to help you retrieve 10 of the most forgotten items during a move.   Lawn Mower.  Although this is not a small item that's easy to miss, it is easy to forget your lawn mower because it's likely to be stored in an outbuilding or other location outside of the home.   Medicine.  When travelers go on...

The kitchen is the most popular room in the entire house that buyers look first. First impression goes a long way in this room, so make it worthwile when preparing your house for sale. Here is some basic tips to prepare your kitchen for a good first impression. First and foremost clear the appliances from all countertops. That means putting away the microwave, toaster, blender, coffe pot, napkin holder, salt/pepper, rice cooker, bread maker, or dish rack. If you can't see the space, you can't possibly sell it!. It is hard to live like this, but it's only temporary, and remember, the way you live is not the way you stage your house to sell. Fresh fruit or vegetables(lemon/limes) makes a great decorative piece on on your kitchen counter instead. I am sorry to say that your refrigerator is...

This was the seen looking out over the Upper East Side of Manhattan last week when I was in NYC.  Oh how I wish I could be there to see how it changes tomorrow night.   Beginning at 8:30 p.m. (local times) on March 28th, a global movement of individuals and organizations in 81 countries and most major cities around the United States, will dim their skylines on some of the most iconic structures around the world.  1,800 cities around the world are planning to participate in the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour tomorrow, where some of the world's most recognizable buildings will ‘go dark,' turning off all non-essential lighting for one hour.   World Wildlife Fund CEO Carter Roberts commented on the symbolism of the event, using New York as an example.  He stated, "This will be a pivota...

Every house has potential storage space that goes to waste. You just need to find that space and put it to work. Extend upper kitchen cabinet all the way to the ceiling to stor items you rarely use. Use a step stool to access the space. Equip your cabinets with features that maximize storage. For deep cabinets, install pull-out shelves or baskets that use up all of the space; for tall shelf spaces, use stacking platforms. Corner cabinets can be fitted with lazy susans. Make closets more accessible. Low closet doors complicate access to the top shelf of a closet. Oversize door....even ceiling-height models, make it easier to store bulky items on high shelves. Go to the garage. Even in garages where parking is a tight fit, there is room in the space above the car's hood for wall-mounted c...

Home improvement doesn't have to be costly. Here are some home improvement ideas that will have a positive effect on your home's overall cachet. By concentrating on certain types of upgrades you'll not only create a more comfortable living space for yourself, but you'll make it more sellable if and when the time arises. Not sure where to begin when trying to de-clutter and stage a home?  Here is my simple breakdown list. Coat racks should be left empty. I know it isn't practical, but no leaning tower of coats please. Shoe racks should not be left outside by the front door. Do not leave a "remove your shoes" sign unless the carpet or flooring is brand new or you just had it steamed cleaned. It doesn't make sense to have people remove their shoes if your carpets is just as dirty. Hide Key Racks. Don't forget to pack away extra copies of all keys. Remove excess wall clutter. Such as dried flower wreaths and family photos. No bright colors, modern, ethnic, or religious art. Less is more. A hall table and mirror work well for the entryway. Agent's cards and flyers can go here. A small votive candle may safe...

The family room needs to look like a family room if at all possible. If you were using the room for you kid's play area, borrow or rent a sofa and cofee table. Clean off bookshelves, mantles, and coffee table. Use stacking tables, a trunk, or ottoman as coffe table will work too. Some of my suggestions to set a coffee table are as follows: a teapot, two tea cups/saucers, two napkins; a small bowl of five or so lemons, a vase of fresh flowers, and a pedestal type cake or cookie plate arranged with tea cookies......get the idea?Take away the throw rug under the coffe table unless flooring is hardwood or tile. If your family room has a fireplace, furniture should be arranged to enjoy the fire, not the TV. If you have a beautiful view, focus on the view. Try to create a conversation area t...

A dining room must look like dining room to start. If you don't have a table and chairs, a fold out table or patio tables can be disguised with table cloths. No one will know. Do you have a china cabinet with glass? Take out a significant amount of the items from the cabinet. These pieces can be packed away or used as centerpiecses or decorations around the house. Neat and nice looking should be the end result. Set the table and let the wood shine through. By the time you finish setting the table, the wood will hardly show. Create a nice floral center piece. As a rule, use silk arrangements younger than 2 years old. All plastic arrangements and greenery should be stored away or thrown away. Remove any extra chairs or tea carts. Remember that you want to create the impression of more squ...

Quotes by Zig Zigglar "HAPPINESS" I'm so optimistic I'd go after Moby Dick in a row boat and take the tartar sauce with me. Most of us would be upset if wesere accused of being "silly." But the word "silly"comes from the old English wrod "selig," and its literal definition is "to be blessed, happy, healthy and prosperous." The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want now. Be helpful. When you see a person without a smile, give him yours.

Under the "Making Home Affordable Program", now homeowners may be eligilble to refinance with their homevalue being less than what is owed in mortgage balance.   Contact a loan officer for more information on eligibility and guidelines. The Home Affordable Refinance program will be available to 4 to 5 million homeowners who have a solid payment history on an existing mortgage owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Normally, these borrowers would be unable to refinance because their homes have lost value, pushing their current loan-to-value ratios above 80%. Under the Home Affordable Refinance program, many of them will now be eligible to refinance their loan to take advantage of today's lower mortgage rates or to refinance .
