Hello all: I'm not sure I've posted much in the past couple of months. To put it lightly it's been a wild ride! But I'm back in the Rain and missed you! An update on my end. After 8 years of hard work, toil and sometimes frustration, I exited the mortgage business. I just didn't want to change to another company after my company downsized me. It's actually a relief and I have to say I'm smiling more these days. I started my new position as Sales Manager at Environment Control in late June. Environment Control is a full-service janitorial and building maintenance company. My journey started innocuously as me applying for and getting hired to clean commercial office space after hours. From there it morphed into a job offer and acceptance as Sales Manager to build out their sales efforts. ...

Good morning! it is absolutely beautiful here. Last Wednesday I started a brand new gig. Honestly, it was out of the blue. Let me back up a bit. On June 3rd I showed up for work. This was after receving what sounded like an ominous phone call from the Regional VP the day before. He wanted to talk to me. Here's the picture. I was working in an office of one. When I started there were 6! I figured they were going to let me go. I was right. I no longer had a home. I have to admit I wasn't crushed. God always has a plan and I figured that something else was in store. Add to that the fact that real estate can be a thankless business, especially mortgages these days. Perhaps I had worn out my welcome! I knew I needed to find something quick or my money would run out. I had been supplementing ...

This morning I walk among headstones in the quiet field. At first I noticed the perfect patterns row after row. Then my thoughts were hushed, my heart moved. Freedom indeed, is not free. I gaze over marker after marker after marker and I can’t help but factor survivors and the fallen... born 1899 Bellingham, died 1918 Belgium born 1921 Renton, died 1944 France, born 1932 Seattle, died 1952 North Korea, born 1950 Tacoma, died 1971 Vietnam, born 1969 Kent, died 1990 Iraq, born 1982 Auburn, died 2003 Iraq, born 1990 Spokane, died 2011 Afghanistan. On and on through time it goes,so many served freedom's call, bless you, and thank you for your sacrifice. Humbled, remembering... Forever grateful, as I walk the quiet field.

Tuesday I had appointments in Seattle, then a quick trip across the lake to the Eastside and back to Renton. It was one of those typical winter days in the Pacific Northwest when the rain really pours all day long. I'm headed down Benson on Easthill Kent for my office in the afternoon listening to NPR and thinking, "When the rains come, they run and hide their heads." That was 1966 when The Beatles released Paperback Writer and on the flipside, Rain. These two songs had a big impact on my musical direction. They were no longer the 4 young Lads singing cute songs like, "I want to hold your hand." They both had grit and bite, droning harmonies, irony with a sardonic grin, and insight with attitude. Kinda like the weather does today. Ringo said years after The Beatles, that he thought Rain...

Autumn Leaves, After the Storm... I was thinking how funny it is that last week I was in Orting on a beautiful warm autumn afternoon taking photos of Mt. Rainier, Halloween pumpkins and pink haystack piggys between visits with clients and today I turned on the heat for the first time to take the damp chill out of the air in my condo. I’m such a fan of the seasons, all of them, and I’m no wimp when it comes to cooler temperatures. I say frugal perhaps to a fault, that’s my upbringing and I wanted to put off that turning on the heat as long as possible. "Where’s my old comfy sweater I put away late last spring?" Last weekend we had quite a storm blow through the area. It was our annual and typical autumn blast with lots of power outages as we pass the equinox. Our reminder, yes we’re head...

Thursday, my friend and coworker Rachel was gifted an iPhone. The only downside was it was wrapped in a big old piece of clear packing tape to keep the cracked screen together and attached. While we were talking about it I jumped online and Googled for iPhone repairs and found iCracked.com. I noticed there were reviews on Yelp.com so I headed over to check them out. Hey Rachel, “this looks pretty cool.” Try this website, or here’s the phone number, give them a call. They have a location in Renton. Rachel calls iCracked and within a few minutes she has a quote, they're sending a tech out to repair the phone on site, and how about tomorrow, does that work for you? We’re laughing, "Now this is what I call WOW service!" But wait there’s more! About an hour later Rachel say’s, OMG! My fiance...

Today it’s definitely Fall and our lingering summer weather said goodbye. I’m headed home this evening up Benson Highway after work. Little did I know there was a fun little surprise waiting. Traffic was really heavy this evening and it took about 3 lights to get to the intersection of SE 240th, but I wasn't complaining. It was unavoidable not to see the road side marketing going on. This young lady must be on a drill team or in gymnastics. She was so much fun, very engaging, and put on a wonderful spirited performance for us all. Halloween is one of my favorite unofficial holidays. Such fun getting all dressed up and pretending to be somebody else. Who say's the Friday evening commute can't be fun?

A great day at our Kent office today working on projects. I stepped outside around 2:30 this afternoon to take a break and enjoy the sunshine for a few minutes. The shadows are long like October, but it's a balmy 72° outside. I heard on the radio this morning there's a high pressure zone a few hundred miles off the coast that's keeping our usual overcast skies and the start of the rainy season away for another week or so. It hasn't been this dry around here in September / October since the mid 1920's. This is for my friend Charlie Buell. I love his "The Shadow Knows" profile picture.

My escrow team knows me all too well. We had an awesome month end and they closed well over 100 transactions this month from our Kent Branch. If you know escrow, and you know what two LPOs, two assistants, and one part time receptionist/assistant can do in a month, it's mind boggling! It was totally a bucking bronco amazingly amazing crazy ride busy kind of month end this August 2012 and we celebrated by treating ourselves to a couple of takeout lunches this week. I'm the first one to admit, I'm kind of the absent minded professor type, and the great leftovers from these delightful lunches were offered up to me, the token bachelor male of the office! But I spaced and totally forgot to take them home yesterday. So when I got to the office today they posted the obvious big sticky note on ...

A Summer Rescue Back in January when the L. A. Times dissed us in Seattle as a bunch of Snow Wimps, the entire region instantly came together in shared indignation. Those were fightin’ words and Northwest bloggers all over the area weaponed up, pointed their postings south, and fired off several canonical blasts over their blogs bow. One of the best shots was by KING 5’s Art Thiel (he made us all proud) with:Critics of Seattle in snow: Shut the hell up But now in the dog days of summer on the other side of the year with temperatures in the high 80’s and getting warmer, those cold snowy days of winter seem so long ago. Hey, I’m not complaining. After last winter I promised myself I’d never complain about summertime heat again, especially to my southern California pals about how I'm wilti...
