Slug Bug! Smack! No Hit-Backs!When the kids were younger and we were out on a Saturday adventure, they’d play slug bug. If you haven’t played, the first one to see a Beetle smacks one of the others and you’re free from hit-backs. That’s the rule. Not any VW mind you, just Beetles, old or new.Now they’re all grown up and it's been a few years since we've piled into the Explorer to head out on a Saturday. Shannon lives in Hawaii on Kauai, Jeff and Paige in Newcastle. They’re Gen Y Millennials in their 20’s now with lives of their own. It’s funny the silly little things a dad remembers, the memories you cherish. One of our monthly rituals was driving up the back way along Lake Sammamish to visit the Half Price Books in Redmond. This store was their favorite and the other two closer to home ...

The first thing I took notice of at Anderson Park in Downtown Redmond were the really tall trees dressed up in beautiful tree socks.  It is vibrant and energizing and draws you in.  These tree socks were knitted by an artist named Suzanne Tidwell and the scene is titled "Artificial Light".  I've seen her art in other places; her most recent display is at the Redmond Town Center as lanterns hanging in the center.         Anderson Park in Downtown Redmond is the first and oldest park in the city, covering 2.8 acres with beautiful green grass, flowers, cabins you can rent, covered picnic shelters and a brick plaza with an outdoor stage.           The outdoor stage is the center of activity for presentations in the summer in Redmond.  This is where ACTS OUT, anew FREE outdoor theate...

Remember the days when moving meant calling a bunch of strong  friends and bribing them with beer and pizza?  Boy, I do!  In a strange way, moving was fun!  It was always an adventure.  When I was in college, I moved so often that I had a set of boxes that nested together and fit under the bed or in the closet.  Everything I owned could fit in those boxes or in the backseat of some friend’s car.  Life was so simple!  Things have become much more complicated since the good ol’ days of college.  Since then, I have acquired furniture, kitchen gadgets and small appliances for every task, dishes, books, DVDs, electronics, “collectables”, and just plain stuff.  What was once a simple process is now so much more difficult.  Back then, I could move in one car trip.  I could do it all myself, wi...

Microsoft Visitor Center with my GrandsonMicrosoft Visitor Center with my GrandsonMy grandson is here for spring break. He is called “Microsoft” sometimes, for the unusual questions he asks. The other day I was at my computer. He came up and asked, “is that Windows 7 that you are using?” Then he went on to expound the virtues of Windows 7 and how it is so great! So I thought it would be fun to spend some time at the Microsoft Visitor Center. We were there for four hours! It is designed as a wonderful toyland for kids (and their parents and grandparents)Of course, there were several giant sized Kinect set ups. Our favorite ended up being a table with a computer in it. It was like a smart phone on steroids, or a giant tablet computer. No mouse! No keyboard! Just your hands, or fingers, or el...

Since Redmond is home to Microsoft and dozens of other High-Tech Companies, but only 23 homes in 2011 SOLD for $1,000,000 or more in Redmond, according to Northwest Multiple Listing Service. Redmond's waterfront home sales are marching in tune with the rising tide of waterfront real estate sales around the Puget Sound.  Sales of waterfront homes in 2011 were up 9.7% compared to the previous year. Of the 34 homes sold in Redmond in 2011, most were moderately price waterfront homes.  A small portion of Redmond's southern shoreline on Lake Sammamish usually encompasses the highest-priced homes, and this year was no exception.  The top sale in Redmond was a waterfront home on W Lake Sammamish Pkwy, closing at $2,500,000.  The NWMLS includes waterfront homes on lakes, rivers, Sound, and many other bodies of water within the waterfront homes calculations.
