I was reminiscing yesterday about a couple of great guys I use to work with, John Wickwire and Hung Nguyen. Even though they came from opposite sides of the planet they shared many similar traits and values. John grew up in Ephrata and the Moses Lake area of eastern Washington. The son of a Judge, he had a passion for the law. John served in Vietnam and attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, and the University of Washington, in Seattle. Hung was from South Vietnam and served his country as a judge. Because he worked with the Americans during the war he had to escape the country after the fall of Saigon and came to America. Social Media, old school... This past couple of months life has been a race with not only a busy work schedule but even busier weekends. One of my oldest friends, Dave Hoskin, called me last week. His voicemail was funny, "I know your really busy and you probably can't go, and you're probably working, but I'm headed up to the Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair this Saturday and thought you'd like to go."  I laughed thinking how typical that message was. Dave and I have been friends for about 40 years. We met when I just started College. We were both in music. I kind of do several things at a time, but really I know I juggle them. It's not really true multitasking. I'm not doing two or three or more things simultaneously. As a person who resides in Renton I am on the mailing list of the local city government.  With the past couple of year's having had some big rains and flooding in the area, it seems that there is some long term damage to a local dam that is going to take a while for the Corps of Engineers to repair.  If you haven't looked at your homeowner's insurance policy lately, now would be a good time.  The city says that with potential flooding in the Green River Valley area it could cause sewer back ups and other issues.  If a sewer back up originates from outside your home, your policy may not cover it. Flood insurance is available to anyone who wants it, you don't have to live directly in a flood zone to get it despite popular opinion. A Simple Explanation Of The Federal Reserve Statement (September 23, 2009 Edition) The Federal Open Market Committee voted to leave the Fed Funds Rate within its target range of 0.000-0.250 percent. It also reiterated plans to support the mortgage market to the tune of $1.5 trillion. In its press release, the FOMC noted that the U.S. economy is "picking up following its severe downturn" and that financial markets have "improved further". It's the second consecutive post-FOMC statement in which the Fed appears somewhat optimistic -- a signal that the recession will end soon, or has already ended. City of Renton just opened the Cedar River Off Leash Dog Park. I was looking at homes in Fairwood the other day and swung by to take a look. Nicely done.
