All morning I have tried to post a blog and everytime I get started, something pulls my attention away from Active Rain. Part of it is the cats, of course, who meow and yammer for attention since my husband is out of town for a few days. They usually demand attention equally from both of us, but now it all falls into my lap, and let's face it, I've got other things to do than play with the cats all day. Like sell real estate. And play Ingress. And take my car in for an oil change and get the guy at Midtown Auto Works to sign up for Ingress. And let's not forget looking at the temperature forecast from the Marriott in Racine, Wisconsin, where my husband is staying for a family funeral. You can see it in my personal blog today, and you will NOT believe your eyes. You might wonder where di...

Real Estate is local. The overall Real Estate market in the United States affects all local markets. Local markets will reach the bottom of their specific market(s) at different times. Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, and a few other states that have not, generally speaking anyway, been victims of predatory lending to the degree other states, such as California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, ..., have had predatory lending as the norm, rather than the exception, willrecover sooner than the states that were suseptible to predatory lending. Real Estate is local. I am an expert in my market, Racine County, Wisconsin. We have experienced declines in property values, depending on municipality, ranging from 7% to 18%, annually since 2006. The number of closed transaction in Racine County for 1st qua...

It seems like everytime I go through Racine all I can do is think about Pizza; this place has some of the best! Racine sits picturesqely on the shore of Lake Michigan. Racine was a business right off the bat, and Industry thrives today. Racine has it's share of major companies that contribute, or have contributed, to this magnificent City, including J. I. Case (heavy equipment), and S.C. Johnson (cleaning and chemical products). In 1887, malted milk was invented by Englishman William Horlick in Racine, and Horlicks is still enjoyed Worldwide. The garbage disposal was invented in 1927 by architectJohn Hammes of Racine. He founded the company InSinkErator in Racine, which still produces millions of garbage disposers a year. In addition, Racine is the home of Johnson Wax, with its headquar...

After a year plus of brutal reporting on the demise of the Real Estate Industry, the news media has moved on to another whipping boy, the looming recession, and again, they are late in their reporting. RECESSION HAS BEEN HERE SINCE MID-2007! Based on historical data used to measure whether we are in a recession, the official announcement comes nearly two quarters after the recession actually begins. Economists are a bit anal, for fear of being wrong.(That is a normal fear, for the rest of us, they just expect themselves to be above it.) More than 50% of economist's predictions are wrong, over 50% of the time. Not to mention most of the 'historical data' is based on pre-global economy data. We have been in a recession, we will come out of it by the end of 2008.This inept, 'Johnny-come-la...

Harbor in Winter.                                                              Reefpoint Marina & Harbor in Summer.Winter in Racine is a true work of art. It is a wonderful time for sledders, skiers, tobogganers, snowmobilers, ice skaters, ice fisherman (and ice fisherwomen), building snowmen (and snowwomen), creating ice sculptures and snow anjels. Our average snowfall per winter is 47.2 inches. This year, so far, we have received just over 80 inches of snow.My listing in Green Ridge Condominiums, the snow is a foot higher than the roof of the vehicle. The west side of the same building has snow up to the second story. My listing at 424 Island Ave., in summer and winter. Pretty, eh?Average temperature in January is 14 degrees. Average temperature in July is 80 degrees.Reefpoint Marina ...

Racine, Wisconsin is on the threshold of a major revival! This beautiful City on the southern shore of Lake Michigan was settled in 1834 by Capt. Gilbert Knapp. Incorporated as a Village in 1841, Racine's growth was nothing short of phenomenal.J.I. Case brought his Threshing Machine Company to Racine in 1844, and soon the Village of Racine became world renown as the center of agricultural and farm related industries. Soon after, the Horlick Malted Milk Company, Johnson's Wax Company and a host of other world class manufacturers were located in Racine.Frank Lloyd Wright designed and supervised the Johnson Wax Tower, Wingspread, and a number of private residences in Racine. Sellers, Now is not the Time to Fish for a Sale in Racine Wisconsin. The Real Estate Market is still active in Racine, for those that accept the Market values as they are today, and the prices homes are selling for are very encouraging. But it is not time to fish for a buyer. To position your home to be the next one sold in your market you need to price it competitively and aggressively. Replace or repair any issues you have been putting off. Be competitive within your market, if Sellers are paying closing costs, be ready to pay closing costs. Offer a Home Warranty, it will give a Buyer a sense of security.Listen to the Real Estate Professional you hire to sell your home, and you will achieve your goal of selling your home.

Racine County's contribution to the freedom of slaves through the Underground Railroad is being recognized by an exhibit opening this weekend at Racine County Heritage Museum. In the mid-1800's Racine County was a 'station' of the Underground Railroad. From the west end of Racine County, Burlington, to the lakefront of the City of Racine, many slaves sought their escape through Racine County to Canada. The Racine Harbor on Lake Michigan was one of the most active harbors during this period of western expansion. Racine offered a route to Canada for oppressed people seeking freedom. Two of the more well known conductors on the Underground Railroad were A.P. Dutton, a local businessman and Maximillian Heck a citizen of Racine. The exhibit features artifacts, photographs, interactive activitie...

Only a couple weeks ago I submitted a post of our Library on the shores of Lake Michigan. A nice, quiet, serene location in a world class location.Well that quiet, serene location has changed considerably today. The  Barak Obama Express just blew into town for a Town Meeting at Racine's Memorial Hall. The locational tie-in.I went Downtown after lunch today anticipating a bit different look for the Lake Ave. setting. It was different!CNN, Univision, Chicago, Milwaukee, television were all setting up. This was about 4 hours before the doors were to open and 5 1/2 hours before Obama was to arrive. The line to get into Memorial Hall was over a quarter mile long. I had a ticket to attend, one of 1500 issued, my daughter called and told me about the line to get in. I drove Downtown immediately...
