Door County Update:  Sister Bay, WI Road Construction and downtown Village Improvements commence.  Sister Bay is still open for business! However, an offshoot of these improvements are, of course, the construction process itself.  It is time consuming, noisy, mess...

Sister Bay's Fall Festival:  Camel Rides, Pumpkin Bowling, Ping-Pong Ball Drop and More. So much more!  What started as a party for local businesses and residents getting ready to shut down for the season (which no longer happens for most Sister Bay businesses) has turned into one of Wisconsin's most popular festivals. From some of my favorite foods that I can only get once each year in Sister Bay, to some of my favorite bands, Sister Bay's Fall Festival for 2013 promises not to disappoint.  Fall Festival is famous for the Ping Pong Ball shoot, where 10,000 ping pong balls are shot into the crowds, many balls have prizes written on them for you to claim from local businesses. Chilly weather is predicted, so pack warm clothes (gloves are good for holding cold beverages).  Come early, as ...

Ah, Sister Bay!  A Village known famously world-wide as the place with the goat palace:  Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant and Butik with their famous goats on the grass roof.  A visit to Door County is not complete without a trip to Al Johnson's.  This year, Sister Bay promises some unusal entertainment in May with the first annual Parade of the Goats.  The Goat Parade will be held in downtown Sister Bay on Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m.  The parade will start on Mill Road and the goats will march to Al Johnson's on Bay Shore Drive, ending with the first-time-in-2013 "Roofing of the Goats". My personal affinity for goats?  One of my sisters kept goats as a project in high school (one was an adoptee from Al's, rejected by the mama goat), so I have direct knowledge of how entertaining they...

Door County Retirement!  Visit and shop Bargains Unlimited for Scandia Village in Door County, Wisconsin Shopping at Bargains Unlimited in Sister Bay.  My mother is a nurse, currently working at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, but she started her career as a CNA at Scandia Village (Good Samaritan Society) in Sister Bay, Wisconsin.  This was because her mother lived in the Alzheimer's Wing from 2000 until 2004.  Mom's love affair with the health field began by assisting her mother at Scandia Village, which turned into volunteerism, then a included trip back to school, actual employment as an LPN at Scandia Village, up to her move to St. Mary's.  I have been familiar with this facility since my teen-age years, when it was built, Christmas caroling with my church for the residents.    My...
