Michael Koziczkowski Park in Stevens Point Wisconsin Stevens Point is a wonderful little city with a wealth of trees and parks, it seems that every time I turn around I discover another nice little park. Today I discovered Michael Koziczkowski Park and thought that it might me nice to share a little glimpse of it with you so I took out my phone and recorded a quick little tour for you to enjoy.   Next time you are in Point, give me a call and we can go explore one of these parks together.

The Square in Stevens Point Wisconsin       When I first moved to Stevens Point to attend college, the square was more known to us kids as a place with dozens of bars and a farmers market that we seldom attended.     These days with a higher drinking age, less college public drinking and thus less bars, it is a place with shops, offices and a renewed farmers market with a large beautiful fountain.     The historic Mathias Mitchell Public Square in downtown Stevens Point is home to the longest running farmers market in the State of Wisconsin. The two square-block marketplace at the end of Main St. has been the focal point for farmers selling their wares since Mitchell donated it to the town in 1847.        The market is open from May through October, 7:00 A.M until the vendors sell out, ...

Welcome Back UWSP Students 2014 - The LRC aka the Library   This is the place that all serious students should be familiar with.   When I first arrived at UWSP over 30 years ago my favorite place here was the natural history museum on the ground floor.  I soon discovered that my grades were to survive I would need to use this place as a way to hide from my friends and the distractions that kept me from studying before the big exams.  My best study place was a private study room on the fifth floor which was private for a while until a few of my friends discovered where I was hiding and they came here to study too, luckily visiting was limited by noise rules in the library.     More UWSP posts   08/28/2014 Welcome Back UWSP Students 2014 –Take a hike down to Belts  0 2 08/27/2014 Welcome ...

Welcome Back UWSP Students 2014 Welcome back to the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, school starts this week and the town is buzzing with activity.  I have seen several groups heading down to Belts for a welcome ice cream break with old and new friends, and today many houses had yard parties as people gathered to reacquaint with old friends and meet a few more before the busy life of classes begins. For those who do not have housing secured, we have a few more homes available we just finished cleaning and repairs on.  And if anyone needs a couch or other misc. furniture, I seem to be developing a collection in one of my garages that I would like to get rid of soon. Jack and I took a walk around campus today and took a few pics of the buildings, people and art around campus; wat...

Stevens Point WI, Best little city in America     I love living in this city.     I first came to this town over 30 years ago when I started college here.       It was a culture shock for me coming from a rural farm near a small town of 800 people.  At the time it seemed like a much larger metropolis than it seems to be today.       After 6 years of college I grew to love the city of Point and hated to leave to start my career, but everybody has to grow up and leave sometime.     A decade after starting my Forestry Consulting Company in Western Wisconsin, I was looking to expand and what better place than the home of the largest and most prestigious Forestry school in the country, UW Stevens Point, and the place that I had grown to love so much when I was a student there.       So my w...

Stevens Point History     Stevens Point was founded in 1858, during a time when the Wisconsin River was a major highway going from NE Wisconsin to the Mississippi River in SW Wisconsin.     The loggers traveling down the river floating logs used a grocery and supply store owned by George Stevens, on a sharp bend in the river as a convent spot for a landing.     A lot of things have happened in Stevens Point since then including the development of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point College of natural resources which first brought Bob Crane here over 30 years ago.     I am still enjoying the developing history of this town, and suggest that if you get a chance, you should stop in to experience some of this developing history.     Enjoy your summer.     Bob

Ricky Called to Tell Me How Much He Loves His Kitchen We bought this home as a foreclosure several years ago and started showing it to prospective tenants a few days before closing as we often do. This one generated some enthusiastic followers and many were anxious to fill our applications, especially since I pointed out to them that the quicker you get your application in the quicker you can be approved and moved to the top of the list. The day of closing I went straight over to this house where one of my sons was holding the final open house for this home. I was surprised to see a large crowd here, especially considering the fact that we still had not made any of the repairs or completed the cleaning that is always needed in a foreclosure. A few hours later I called the top two applic...

The Green Circle Trail, a Stevens Point Treasure   As I have mentioned before, Stevens Point has always been a great place for biking.  With very few high traffic bottlenecks, level terrain and ample shops and attractions close to any part of town that you live in.   In 1996, the city added another unique attraction when they developed the Green Circle Trail which helped to join together many of the natural areas in and around the city especially concentrating along the Wisconsin and Plover rivers and all of the great scenery associated with them.   This not only gives us access to some great scenery but it also joins together all the area of town while making for a great Saturday of biking.

Stevens Point Mural Series - McDonald title         I always enjoy going by this Mural, it is not one of the official city sponsored murals and it has a certain historical family business aire to it that is always enjoyable. One bonus to this mural is that the artist painted a scene that could have been of this business as it was in the 1800's.   McDonald Title Company, Inc. Located at 1059 Clark Street, Stevens Point, WI    Portage County's Oldest Title Company - Since 1880 -

Stevens Point Mural Series - Kozy Kitchen Home Cooking This mural is also not one of the city sponsored murals, but it still is very interesting  with a good times type flaire to it. The longest running restaurant in Stevens Point, at the corner of Third and Clark streets, is called “Painting the Town”. Over the years, thousands of "locals" and visitors enjoyed a fine home cooked meal at the Cozy. This mural was painted by local artist Greg Luedtke. Notice the cute girl in this picture, thats my loving wife Sally out for an early morning bike ride.

Stevens Point Wisconsin Mural Series - Our Ten Most Influential Citizens       Stevens Point's Ten Most Influential Citizens   Kelly Meredith painted the mural titled, "Stevens Point's Ten Most Influential Citizens" on the corner of Clark and   Strongs Ave. in 2008 to celebrate the City of Stevens Point's Sesquicentennial. The individuals in this mural were voted the most influential because of their contributions to the city and people of Stevens Point. The influence of these important people remains today. Their names can be found on street signs, buildings, and parks throughout Stevens Point.     1.
