On Saturday, April 16, the Stoughton Kiwanis Club invites families with children ages 10 and younger to participate in their 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at 11 am in Mandt Park, near the ball diamond. This free event is open to children, 10 and younger, accompanied by a responsible adult. There is no charge, but children should bring a basket or bag to put their eggs in. In addition to the actual Easter Egg Hunt, there will be photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, so parents should be sure to bring a camera. In case of rain, the event will be held promptly at 11:00 on Saturday April 23. Local Kiwanians and high school students from the Stoughton Area Key Club will supervise the event. On July 3, 1847, Luke Stoughton, a Vermont Yankee living in the Janesville area, purchased 800 acres of land nestled in a large bend of the Catfish River (now the Yahara River). The cost was $2100. He liked the site because the Catfish River had the potential for being able to power a lumber mill. He designed the town, including the dam, lumber mill, and general store. He also sold land and houses  to friends and family.  In 1853,  Stoughton traded land to the railroad if the line would pass through his city. This transportation feet ensured the growth and success of the city.
