I came across this poem and thought I would share...Happy Memorial Day everyone.  Stop to really think of the meaning of today's celebration. Another Memorial Day © Sam L. Carter 05/29/2005 Sitting here today, reading a poem "Our Flag is Great", I ponder another time' I'm reminded, for several years, its come & gone, the "9/11" terrorist crime! A discernment prior to then, about people's indifference & disrespectful ways, Left feelings that drastic times were coming, but not as terrible as the "9/11" days. At public gatherings, people had no thought of reverence for our Flag's history, For sacrifices made by friends & family, many dying patriotically, to keep us free. Giving their lives or limbs or minds in times of crisis that threatened our liberty, Going proudly, knowing this Count...

As I mentioned yesterday, I am tackling my spring cleaning right now (a bit late I realize)....Here are some tips on how to clean your overhead fixtures:    Hanging lamps:  Always turn power off.  For pendants, wash the glass globe in the sink.  If it's not fragile, pop the dome into the dishwasher.  use distilled white vinegar and a microfiber cloth to polish the rest of the fixture.  You can also spray chandeliers thoroughly with a degreasing cleaner (place a shower curtain on the floor to catch drips).  Apply white vinegar with a rag to rinse, and gently rub from the top down with a  cloth.   Ceiling fans:  Carefully dry dust the blades and motor housing, then wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth, supporting the blade with your free hand as you work.  For out of reach high ceilings...

I am in the middle of my spring cleaning tasks around the house, as I am sure many of you are.  I am a bit late this year, but better late than never :-).  Here is a great way to tackle cleaning your walls and baseboards.      For Baseboard cleaning, first dry dust or hand vacuum with a brush attachment and revisit with a rag and a bucket of hot soapy water.  Or, you can clean on a low setting with an extension attachment on a household steamer.   For Walls, most scuffs on walls will disappear with a spritz of degreasing cleaner and a microfiber cloth.  Or, try a product like Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  Always test any product in an inconspicuous area first to ensure that it won't damage your paint.    Prevention Plan:  Dust or vacuum baseboards, monthly and you'll only need to wash them o...

I love olive oil, especially because there are so many clever uses for it!  Try these out:   1.  Remove paint from hands.  Freshly painted walls can leave your hands stained with stubborn splatters.  Mix a teaspoon of olive oil with a pinch of baking soda or sugar and use it to gently rub away dried drips.  2.  Unstick zippers.  Zippers will slide smoothly again with the help of a little oil.  Carefully use a cotton swab to apply a small amount inside the slider body and move the tab up and down the teeth a few times.   3.  Sub it for shave cream.  In a pinch, lightly coat your legs in olive oil and your razor will effortlessly run over stubble.  It conditions your razor blades too!4.  Clean candle holders.  Rid a candlestick of residual wax by washing it with a mild dish soap and a few...

I saw an article on Womansday.com that discussed how small changes can help reduce your diabetes risk by 58%.  Here are 3 ways to prevent diabetes:    1.  Cut sugar.  Skip sugary beverages like soda, lemonade, coffee drinks and fruit juice.  Sip water or seltzer with a slice of lemon or lime for flavor.   2.  Move more.  Walk for short periods of time throughout the day.  Go for a 10 minute walk in the morning, march in place during commercial breaks, and stand up every hour to take two laps around your home.   3.  Eat vegetables.  Fill half of your plate with veggies at lunch and dinner.  The exceptions: high carbohydrate choices like potatoes.

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.       I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.       Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.          Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.     So long as the memory of certain beloved friends lives in my heart, I shall say that life is good.   Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state ...

Mother's Day comes once a year. Some think that if they buy their mother flowers and a card that they have fulfilled their obligation for the rest of the year. If we only comprehended a 10th of what our mothers did for us as children, and how they would literally die for us if needed, we would realize that one day is not sufficient. Mothers Day should be a time to remind us that we have been neglecting our duties as sons and daughters. This relationship is sacred let us honor our mothers. Why Ethel Changed Motels   Last week Ethel checked into a motel on her 70th birthday and she was a bit lonely. She thought, “I’ll call one of those men you see advertised in phone-books for escorts and sensual massages.” She looked through the phone-book, found a full-page ad for a guy calling himself Tender Terry - a very handsome man, with assorted physical skills flexing in the photo. He had all the right muscles in all the right places, thick wavy hair, long powerful legs, dazzling smile, six-pack abs, and she felt quite certain she could bounce a sixpence off his well-oiled butt. . . . . She figured, “What the heck, no-one will ever know! I’ll give him a call.”   “Good evening Ma’am, how may I help you?”   Oh my! He sounded sooooo sexy! Afraid she would lose her nerve if she hesita...

Did you know that a strawberry should technically not be called a berry?  True berries, like blueberries and cranberries, have seeds inside, whereas strawberry seeds are on the outside of the fruits.    Since the 1800s, strawberries have been a grand slam at Wimbeldon.  Each year, spectators consume over 30 tons in the form of strawberries and cream, the event's signature dish.    When it comes to deciding whether to splurge on organic strawberries, consider that they have more vitamin C and antioxidants than conventional berries.  Also, because they contain less water, they tend to have more concentrated sweetness.  They are also purer, a very good thing, since the regular berries have one of the highest concentrations of pesticide residues of all produce tracked by the USDA.   The ave...

I received this testimonial from some wonderful clients and thought I would share it :-)   "Once Jess and I knew we were going the route of purchasing a home, Kristin was the only option we even considered. Kristin has worked with various friends and family and they have always had very positive results, our experience was no different. Once we got in contact with Kristin, listings came quickly, viewings shortly after that and once we decided to put an offer in, Kristin was extremely responsive to all parties which helped the buying process go much more quickly and smoothly than I think it would have with anyone else. I can easily say, beyond any doubt, that Kristin is the best person I have worked with in any professional setting. She has a personal touch, is extremely responsive and c...

My Mom forwarded this to me...thought I would share it....       TO ALL MY FRIENDS..YOUNGER AND OLDER AND IN-BETWEEN...WINTER ARRIVES SOONER THAN WE EVER IMAGINE IT TO... AND THEN IT IS WINTER   I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK. READ SLOWLY!   You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes ...
