Iowa County Fair, August 28th to Sept 1 2014; dont miss the memories When I was a kid the fair was the event that we waited for all summer. A time to get away from the farm for a few days, see our friends, maybe take along a special girl. Also a time to show off our skills with 4-H and FFA exhibits where we could exhibit our prize Cattle, Horses, and other livestock as well as other things like crops, baked goods, sewing, and many more of the things that farm people proudly produce.     And then there was the other Fun stuff, like the carnival, the demo derby, the musical events, horse races and so many other things that are fun to take a date to. This summer will be a great time to renew some of those memories and create a few more.       More Fair info at http://iowacountyfair.org/  ...

I enjoy photographic images recorded with a camera but with an abstract feeling to them.  This was taken on a cold and snowy January day, much like this day.  You can see the snow clinging to the nodules of the branches towards the bottom of the photograph.  This was taken in Mineral Point Wisconsin in front of an old brewerey turned gift store with original art from local artists.  The lower lever of this old brick building had a stream running through it which was used in the beer making.  What history!

This is the first season that I have volunteered to do bell ringing for the Salvation Army. It all seemed relatively harmless when I signed up in early November. I am scheduled for 1 hr shifts, and I picked a time I thought would be the warmest part of the day no matter what. Little did I know that 2 of the past 3 Sundays that I volunteered were extremely cold! Bundled up, my face barely visible that first day, I was greeted kindly and even thanked by many for standing near that famous red kettle, ringing that equally famous bell! One kind soul had been to the sight earlier when a mother and daughter were ringing, and he came back to deliver hot chocolate, only to find them gone on their way. Still, he handed one off to me and wished me well. The kettle was so full of money that we had ...
