I had a closing on Thursday, August 6, which I would not be able to attend as I was having surgery at the UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.  The selling agent was from my office, and had informed me everything was ready and not to worry. The following week I found out that there was a BIG problem.  The lender for this loan, Taylor, Bean and Whittaker, a national mortgage lending company, had to cease all origination operations effective immediatetly, and would not be able to close or fund any mortgage loans currently pending in its pipeline.  Dianne Beale, Assistant VP, Mortgage Lending at the First National Bank was providing the VA lender.  She had received word Tuesday, August 4th, about Taylor, Bean and Whitaker and our closing was to be on August 6th.             This could hav...

Blackwell's Restaurantis located in the Elks Country Club in Lewisburg, West Virginia. We have eaten at Blackwell's many times, and still think that it is one of the best hidden gems in Lewisburg.  Blackwell's has the very best food and atmosphere in the Greenbrier Valley.  Sitting inside or outside on the deck, patrons have the views of the golf course and the mountains.  The restaurant is opened to the public.                  The owners are Tim and LeeAnn Rodgers.  Tim is a Five-Star Chef.  They have been the proprietors since 2006.  Tim and LeeAnn met while working at the Greenbrier Resort.  Tim was a chef and LeeAnn was attending the Chef's School.   Years later they opened Blackwell's Restaurant and business has been very prosperous for them.   Antiques and collectibles can be found at The Very Thing, located in Lewisburg, West Virginia, just off the I64 exit.        The Very Thing offers a wonderful opportunity to see many unique and diverse selections of items.  Stop by and browse the 75 vendor booths, with a wide range of goods including antiques, books, collectibles, vintage clothing, furniture, Greenbrier Hotel items, and gifts.    I've shopped at The Very Thing for myself and for my family.  My biggest purchase was a 12 place setting of the Greenbrier dishes, as well as the Greenbrier china that has the letter "G" monogrammed on each piece.  Why buy china with a monogrammed "G"? ... my last name is Gaujot....I thought the dishes would work great...and I might add the china makes a beautiful table.   Never thought I wou...

Greenbrier Pines Subdivision, Lewisburg, WV In 2004, my husband and I were in West Virginia attending my nephews wedding. Afterward, he suggested we drive to Lewisburg and checkout the area for a possible retirement area.  Well, I fell in love with this quaint historical town.  We found land for sale in the Greenbrier Pines Subdivision, about a mile from the town of Lewisburg.  We purchased two lots and built our retirement home. Greenbrier Pines is a superb residential neighborhood and one of  Lewisburg's finest subdivisions.  Greenbrier Pines is situated on 50 acres, and within the city limits of Lewisburg.  One of the things that I liked about this subdivision is the underground utilities.  Homeowner's association dues are $100.  Elementary school is less than a mile. Plus, the...

A delightful evening with friends started with dinner at the Stardust Cafe and later a play at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre.  We had tickets for the play "Sherlock Holmes, The Final Adventure." by Steven Dietz. If you are going to the Greenbrier Valley Theatre, the Stardust Café is the place to dine since it is right across the street from the theatre.  The Stardust Cafe is fine dining and a casual atmosphere with lots of character and charm.  When you walk in there is a large glass case full of yummy delicious desserts.  The desserts are made by a local baker, Hall Hitzig, known as the Crazy Baker.  Makes you want to skip the meal and go right to dessert.  Elizabeth Destiny is the owner of the Stardust Café, which use to be a meat market.  Elizabeth, everyone calls her Destiny, has ...

I don't know about you but food always seems to make everyone excited. When you talk to someone about somewhere that has got great food and service to boot, you can't help but get excited! I was so glad to hear that there was a contest to see what the "unique places to dine" in West Virginia. It seems that we have a few local establishments that have made the list. Everyone in Lewisburg has experienced "Jims Drive-In" on Rt. 60, just out of downtown Lewisburg. With curb service you get to eat right in your car. If you are lucky enough to be there on a good day you can use the tables placed outside the parking area. They offer great subs, barbecue sandwiches, and don't forget the incredible English hot dogs! Jims Drive-In was #48 on the list for 101 unique places to dine in West Virginia...

Lewisburg, West Virginia, is known for its fine art.  If a native, or just visiting, the one stop you should put on your list of places to visit is the Cooper Gallery.  On First Fridays of each month, the Gallery is open until 9:00 pm., as is most of the town. On Lewisburg's First Friday, July 3, the Cooper Gallery gave an artist reception for Mark Cline.  His paintings are about the exaggeration of color, as well as the substitutions of colors that may share equal value in the light spectrum.  Mark's paintings are also about texture, both real and implied.  His most recent body of work has been done with a palette knife.  The event was a huge success with some of his art being sold at the reception. Special artist events are scheduled throughout year at the gallery, and are so enjoy...

Since July 4th real estate for me has been somewhat of a whirlwind. Here's a summation of the whirlwind..... On Saturday, July 4th, I wrote a contract for a sweet 65 year old lady.  She wanted to buy this mini farm in Crawley, WV, that I have listed.  I informed her that there would be a lot of maintenance for this property, and may be too much for her to handle.  But, she said the Lord would be helping her.  The contract was contingent on her selling her South Carolina property.  BTW, like most sweet old ladies....she will talk your ear off..and she did....It took three hours to write this contract...... Well, needless to say, I was really concerned about this contract, and her living by herself out in the country, and trying to maintain the property.  Sunday - My sweet little lady cal...

My husband informed me about an article that was written about our small, historic town, Lewisburg, WV.  So I searched the Washington Post and found the article, "Lewisburg, WV Offers Rich History and Small Town Treasures"....By John M. ThompsonSpecial to The Washington Post Monday, June 22, 2009; 4:00 PMThe last time I was in Lewisburg, W.Va., was about seven years ago; we stopped at the Wal-Mart off the interstate to get rain boots for the kids. Then somewhere along the way I heard that Lewisburg is one of those small American towns that have kept their early-20th-century charm while spiffing up enough to give 21st-century visitors a reason to stop over for a night or two. In other words, the town has become an attraction in itself.Where to Go, What to Do in Lewisburg, W.Va.Tucked in ...
