Sheridan Wyoming is home to many equestrian properties and equestrian events, not to mention it's home to some famous horses. From the late 1800s, The area around Sheridan and Big Horn Wyoming has been famous for raising many great horses and still today is home to some outstanding polo and rodeo events.  Perhaps our most famous horse was Foolish Pleasure, Kentucky Derby winner, who was buried on the Horseshoe Ranch in Dayton Wyoming.  Back in the 1920s after WWI, Goelet Gallatin formed the Circle V Polo Company, which was the premier polo operation in the world at the time.  See more about this fantastic history. My grandfather raced horses on the Gallatin Ranch and was the first person to ever beat the Crow Indians in a horse race there at the Big Horn Races. Photo of the Historic Gall...

Welcome to one of the most beautiful venues for youth soccer in the United States. The Snickers Big Horn Soccer Cup, formally know as the MARS Big Horn Soccer Cup, will host over 100 youth soccer teams from around Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana. The Big Horn Equestrian Center in Big Horn Wyoming is the host facility, which is also home to the Big Horn Polo Club.   This tournament is a display of what it's like to live in this beautiful area and a testimony to the great people who live here and host this tournament.  This same venue will also host the Wyoming Youth Soccer State Cup on Memorial Day Weekend and it will be the Venue for the Wyoming State High School Soccer Championships.

The Big Horn Mountain Foothills are a land of legacy (see video).  They were home to the Sioux and the Cheyenne as well as the Crow Indians, and Chief Crazy Horse was born here.  His mother was buried in Little Goose Canyon and he lived and spend most of his life trying to defend his home land.  It's a land of plenty: plenty of wildlife, scenery and great people.  The character of the people who live here is perhaps a reflection of this great and beautiful land or perhaps the character has been shaped by the land.  For whatever reason, this land full of history, is still the last best place and it's rare to find such great expanses of undeveloped land.  Yes, much of it is private, but it's still there to enjoy from a scenic perspective. It's rare to find ranches for sale in this area, b...

This Thursday and Friday at the Big Horn Equestrian Center, the Summer Fundraiser Event will feature Mr. Doug Sheehan- the Knot's Landing actor who will play the Queen and follow up last year's event, which was tremendously funny. The Big Horn Equestrian Center is a fabulous venue for this event in Big Horn Wyoming.  For more information on this event or for how you can become a member of this organization or a member of our incredible community in the Sheridan Wyoming area, contact us. This is the Kellie Howie BBQ and Skeeter's Patio with the polo fields beyond. The play will take place on the patio. The Club House and polo fields:

Have you ever spent a summer in Big Horn WY or in the surrounding Big Horn Mountains? Maybe you spent a summer at one of our world-famous dude ranches, or maybe you grew up here and then moved away for one reason or another, as many of us have done.  If you're like me, now that you've seen what the rest of the world has to offer, you're now ready to get back to the best place on earth.  I did this over 14 years ago and I have no regrets, especially now.  Not only is this a beautiful place to live, work and play, but we have low taxes, low crime and high quality of life.  Take a trip down "memory lane" with this video, which shows the Big Horn foothills south of Big Horn, WY from a super cub. You start out over the world-famous Big Horn Equestrian Center and the Flying H Polo Club and t...

Well, maybe we're not Boulder, CO, but I'm glad.  We do have great cycling though here in cowboy country.  Yes, I am a cyclist and though not competitive anymore, I still like to get out on my road bike or my mountain bike in the Big horn Mountains.  Last evening, I took to the roads south of Sheridan and around Big Horn, WY and I thought it would be fun to video some of it.  Every time when I go out, I think of the poor people who don't or won't ever get to experience some of the peacefulness that comes from living here.  While not everyone can experience polo, which by the way, is the most fun you can have with your clothes on, just about everyone can ride a bike.  For most though, a bike ride means contending with traffic, noise, pollution, etc.  For me, it's an ocaissional deer that...

Captain Bruce Garber flew his Super Cub so I could record this video- "Flight Along the Big Horns"  that starts near Moncrieffe Ridge on the Big Horn Mountains. We flew over the beautiful Big Horn Equestrian Center, home of the Big Horn Polo Club and also the venue for MARS Big Horn Soccer Cup. Today it was the DUCKS UNLIMITED Greenwings program below us. To the West are the perfect polo fields of the Flying H Polo Club and then you can see the old original venue for Big Horn Polo that they used in the early 1900s where they held the Big Horn Races at Gallatin Flats. We then flew over Little Goose Creek and gazed up into Little Goose Canyon. Farther to the West, you can see the Red Grade Road, which takes you deep into our backyard playground- The Bighorn National Forest and the Big Hor...

One of the finest and most fun youth soccer tournaments in the country is played at the Big Horn Equestrian Center. It's the MARS Big Horn Soccer Cup at the base of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains near Sheridan and Big Horn, WY. The Sheridan County Soccer Association and MARS put this tournament on for youth soccer from U-10 through U-14. The scenery is spectacular and there's plenty of action as 114 teams from Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota come to play. Tons of Fun! Oh, are we here to play soccer too? It's not just about Dove bars, slides and M&Ms?

On Sunday, March 29, it started raining and then the rain turned to snow.  It looked like the weather forcasters were going to get this right.  We hurried home after my daughter's basketball tournament and got the horses fed enough to last a few days and then we hunkered down.  The snow started coming in sideways for about 16-18 hours.  Schools shut down and so did just about everything, and then it stopped.  Voila, the results are below. These photos were all taken in the Big Horn WY area.  The white will give way to green in a week or so and then the summer vacationers will start making their annual pilgrimige to our wonderful place in the world to visit Wyoming Dude Ranches, The Sheridan WYO Rodeo, Big Horn Polo, fly fishing and all that the Big Horn Mountains have to offer. Big Horn...

Exquisite!  That word porbably caome as close to describing this property as anything can. You really need to actuall walk upon this land to appreciate it, but short of paralleling Chief Crazy Horse's footsteps, this will have to suffice until you get here to see it.This could be one of the most unique offerings anywhere in the West. When you think of prime, spectacular western properties, you'd probably imagine an end-of-the-road masterpiece where you're in your own paradise that has a sense of exclusivity yet it's inviting, relaxing and beautiful. It would be far enough away from civilization to have quiet enjoyment, yet close enough to afford you the amenities you expect. Welcome to the OH   This gem has historical significance in the Sheridan and Big Horn area. Once home to Chief Cr...

Named after Oliver Henry Wallop, the OH Ranch represents the very essence of Big Horn, WY.  This gorgeous ranch borders the Canyon Ranch and sits along Trabing Creek at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains.  Oliver Henry, AKA Noll Wallop, (written bout extensively in Where the Rivers Run North, by Sam Morton) was one of the great horsemen who helped shape the area into one of the greatest equestrian areas in the country.  Not only is this an area ideally suited for raising excellent horses; it's a great area for sportsmen or anyone looking for a better quality of life.  Take a look at the views (all photos from the OH Ranch).

Winter in Big Horn can be great for snow mobiling and back country skiing, but what everyone loves is the summer season.  For polo enthusiasts, whether players or fans, we have the Big Horn Polo Club, which is the oldest continuously played polo club in the United States.  This is a fun, and down-to-earth polo club where we play and often times we get to play and practice with some of the best players in the world who come to play high-goal polo at the Flying H Polo Club, which is just across the fence from our club. We're blessed to have some of the very best polo in the United States during the summer and certainly one of the most beautiful venues.  At the Flying H, they host several North American Polo League (NAPL) tournaments and in the summer of 2007, they hosted the very first NA...

It's 20 below outside right now and the snow squeaks when you walk in it.  In the full moon, you can see the mountains almost like daylight and the breath coming from our horses noses looks like dragon smole in the night.  There really is a silver lining to every cloud.  Hey, you've gotta look for the positives!  But check out the beauty.  This is a beautiful place and if you don't like the weather, just give it a few months.Today at Yellowbird Ranch, Big Horn, WY Spring at Yellowbird Ranch, Big Horn, WY (quite a contrast!)Summer at Yellowbird Ranch, Big Horn, WY Fall at Yellowbird Ranch, Big Horn, WY

In Sheridan and Big Horn, Wyoming, we brought in 2008 with a nice touch of winter, followed by a bluebird day that was crisp and cold, despite all the hype about "global warming".  One of the reasons I love it here so much is that it is a 4-season climate and every 3 months or so, we get a nice change of scenery.  I inserted some photos below.  Beautiful isn't it?  I hope everyone had a great Holiday season and that 2007 was great and hope for 2008 to be even better!
