Thankful for the Phone Call That Put Me onto ActiveRainMy ride on Active Rain has been a journey of 15 years and may well go for some time yet. It was a phone call from a loan officer that had just found the platform and was impressed with the response he got when he did a blog and ping.I signed on and spent time appreciating how active some members were with their daily blog posts. I did not know how to blog and did not want to post something that would demonstrate my ineptness for posterity. It did change, however, as there were blog challenges, those mega events called RainCamps, tutorials on ActiveRain U, and the reality that blogging will get better with time. There were technology posts that came on with some frequency that offered insights to trends that were coming as well as chan...

THANK GOD! How many of us say that without even thinking about it? Yet during November and the Thanksgiving season, it's wise (and humbling) to review all the reasons to be grateful. I'm most grateful for God the Father and Creator of the World, His Son the Risen Savior and Lord Jesus Christ whose Birthday we Celebrate every Christmas on December 25, and the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Counselor who Leads, Teaches and Guides us daily. Without God, none of us would even be here in this world. Without God, there would be no hope. Without God, there wouldn't even be life. While I know some folks share different beliefs about God-even as to whether He or She exists, in  my soul, I've known since a young age there is a God, His Son is Jesus, and He created and loves me and you! The Holy ...

35+ years ago, while taking a leadership seminar, I was asked to share my thoughts on life, what is it I want to accomplish, lead with or give to others? That was a very simple question for me. "Tiny Little Lights".  This is what I've been all about for years.  Nothing earth shattering,  but rather, tiny little lights along my journey with others.  I could share a thousand stories of how that's come to fruition and continues to be, to this day.  I'll share one in particular so as to keep you reading, and not snoring!! LOL  Years ago when Gary and I bought our current home, my immediate thought as I walked into the front door and saw the wall of windows towards the back of the home leading to a huge patio area  was  "Tiny Little Lights". For 4 years I had been hiking the mountain straig...

We have about 10 days of storms coming through North Idaho Panhandle.  Today being the forecasted largest of daily snow fall.  The above picture shows Highway 95 as one exits Sandpoint Idaho and heads north towards Bonners Ferry and Canada.  This photo from Monday as I was heading home and only a teaser storm about 1/5 of the projected snow of storms coming in starting today.   With this in mind I asked our agents and staff to please stay home for safety,  and to take care of much needed work around the house with this type of snowfall.  Of course there is always a 2nd side to the sword.  Driving to Sandpoint Realty Office this morning I could not help but stop and get a photo of how wonderful the Sandpoint Town Center Christmas Tree looks with just the early accumulation of the storms ...

Everyone is under stress right before closing. So many details to take care of in addition to emptying the house and  having it "broom clean."  Take time to compliment the seller for the way they leave the house for the final walk-through. Many sellers vacate their homes and hire a cleaning service for this last phase.   Sellers are exhausted, and a simple thank you or at least acknowledging the effort put forth to get the house in condition to turn it over to the new buyers is the least you can do. If the buyers don't express their gratitude, please agents on both sides should complement the seller. I do feel that the way the house is left shows the character of the seller. Also, the way the buyer receives the home shows their personality.Thinking about selling your home Call Margaret ...

GOD GAVE US PASSION!As we have shared or gratitude's and thanks over the last month I wanted to end mine with my gratitude for the God given gift of passion. Most of us were born out of passion and hopefully we were raised in homes where Mom and Dad's passion remained for each other but overall became second fiddle to love. All of us have found our passions in life and they are as varied as we are ourselves. Our passions change throughout life. Roughly my passions ran from nuclear family, to girls, to music, and to money. Today my passion is my faith in God and for my family. BTW God is number one.Obviously our passions can be out of order as my earlier passions were. Misplaced passion can take us away from what God had originally intended. At one time, when I lived in a small town (pop ...

Over the years I've seen many a person in the Rain claim "blogging doesn't work".And they're right, every time. For them, blogging DOES NOT WORK, but upon closer examination of their blogs there's usually clearly evident reasons as to WHY blogging isn't working for them and in my opinion every one of those reasons can be corrected IF one wants to do the work. Here's what I often see from the "blogging doesn't work" crowd:1.  Not enough content to get the consumer or Google's attention.  Throwing out a handful of posts with "I sell houses" or "I'm help with loans" is going to get it done.  Numbers of posts alone won't make blogging work, but you need enough out there to actually have a chance of being found.2.  "Wrong" content.  If you're writing about stuff the consumer doesn't seek to fi...

I’m so Thankful for our Beaches   The November 2022 Gratitude Challenge has all been about being thankful. We’ve had the entire month to share up to 4 posts about what we are grateful for, which no doubt is pretty easy to do.  It’s been fun to participate, but even better to read so many wonderful posts about gratitude and being thankful! For my last post, I wanted to share my gratitude for our Carlsbad beaches. I am thankful in so many ways! I have spent the majority of my life near beaches, or within an hour or so, on both the east and west coasts. For me it would be very difficult to live far away from the beach, and the lifestyle that I enjoy so much.   Carlsbad is essentially one big beach, about 7 miles long. And there are a number of different named beaches (e.g., Tamarack Beach,...

This is a continuation from: Grateful For The Struggle (part 1)(Week 4, Post 3 of the Active Rain Challenge) In part one I discussed some of the challenges in my life and business I was grateful for, because of what they made of me (and revealed about me). Having gone through many challenges successfully also provided perspective and confidence; I did it before, I can do it again. It's allowed me to remain empathetic to how scared people can get for similar obstacles, but remain strong in my own abilities to overcome; here's what I mean:When many of you and I went through a once in a lifetime national market crash, we no longer succumb to worry about rates that go up occasionally. When the (2022) 6% rates that used to be (2020) 3% rates cause panic; empathy towards those this affects is...

Healthy Email Habits to Improve Your Day   Organize Your Inbox with These 7 Tips Whether you took off one day or five days last week, everyone can relate to this situation: returning to work and finding hundreds of unread emails in your inbox. Chances are you started checking those unread emails before the workweek even started, too. In fact, a recent survey of 1,000 North Americans conducted by Sleep Advisor found that 55% of people check their email before sitting down to work. And 17% said they check their email immediately upon waking up—a staggering number that rises to 33% for workers aged 25-40. Most will simply chalk this up to our culture of connectivity, which dictates that we’re always “on” and checking in, even before the traditional workday starts. Still, studies show that ...

I am truly grateful for my office! When I started real estate in 2005 I had sold and bought a home with a RE/MAX agent. I went to real estate school and was solicited by many companies but I knew in my heart I was going to my local RE/MAX.  So I stepped out in faith joined the firm and never looked back.  As a RE/MAX agent I have access to other agents all over the world! I have definitely taken advantage of the technology offered including leads, an amazing website,  training & motivational speakers and recognition offered by the RE/MAX brand.  The RE/MAX balloon is in the top 10 recognized symbols in the world! Sure I could be my own broker and probably save money but I do think being part of a big brokerage has helped me sell homes and obtain a referral base. My husband I purchased t...
