Let's see.  2025 -1904 = 121 years ago?  That's a long time ago when this cookbook was compiled by the Ladies' Aid Society of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Searcy AR.  The gift was from my good friend and great Searcy artist, Howard Johnson.  He says it is a copy of the original and  reportedly possibly the oldest church cookbook in Arkansas.  The Church is still in great shape and was already 54 years old when the original book was done.  Here is a page showing a few recipes and the style in which they were done.  My daughter looked at it and said, " That Lemon Pie looks easy to do!" No list of needed supplies like today's cookbooks!  AND.....the ladies were known by the hubby's names!  I did a blog about this custom that still existed for years and years..... Click to read it...

FAMILY - FAITH - FREEDOM OF SPEECH Did you know that agent members of the National Association of Realtors are being accused of HATE SPEECH by people who simply hold opposing views? Then are being deprived of their livelihoods? Woke destroys everything good in life and if you do not believe me, start doing some research.  It's astonishing to know that the NAR Standard of Practice 10-5 of the Code of Ethics and Statement of Professional Standards Policy 29 has become weaponized. Careers have been/are being destroyed by people who report opinions as hate speech. One agent's been in the industry for 45 years. State Boards, along with the National Association of REALTORS are pushing this hate agenda through frivilous complaints by other agents and the public, in an effort to shut profession...

Remember the REAL ID law? It’s been on the back burner for years—thanks, COVID—but the final deadline is now just days away: May 7, 2025.If you want to use your driver’s license or state-issued ID to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building, you’ll need that little gold star in the corner. Without it, you’ll need a passport or other TSA-approved document—even for quick trips within the U.S.I’ll admit, I waited too long to get mine. The lines weren’t fun. But it’s done—and now I don’t have to worry. If you haven’t gotten yours yet, this is your gentle nudge!💡 Pro tip: Bring your birth certificate, Social Security card, and two proofs of address. Some DMV offices require appointments, so check ahead.Have you updated your ID yet? Are your clients ready? This is one of those "lif...

My wife Debbie posted this hilarious true story about being falsely accused of planting a rogue succulent in Woodbridge. If you’ve ever dealt with HOA drama, or just love a good plant mystery, you’ll enjoy this one! 🌱😂 You know you’re a true Woodbridge Irvine homeowner when you get a formal letter accusing you of guerrilla gardening… with a succulent. Truth is, I barely noticed the plant—just a little Portulacaria afra (known as Elephant Bush or Dwarf Jade Plant) quietly doing its thing just outside my gate. It had been growing there for years, blending right into the landscaping. Then the HOA sent me a letter stating: “It has been reported by Management that there are homeowner plants in common area. This is a violation of the governing documents.” Apparently, I was now the prime suspec...

Nuggets were playing at home Saturday evening, and with a roaring crowd!    It looks as if the Clippers lost their energy halfway through the game, and the Nuggets took advantage.   They were up over 25 points and handily won the game 120-101.   They play Oklahoma City in the next playoff game. Not sure why, but both our games were playing Saturday night, luckily, the Nuggets started at 5:30 pm, and the Avs started at 6 pm, so so had to choose which game to watch, but missed some of the Avs Game.    The Avalanche didn't have the same atmosphere - playing in the Dallas Star's house.  They looked good going into 3rd period - 2-0.    Stars caught up, and went 3-2, and in the end, lost it.   So sad!

Charlotte Region Headlines: Military Games, Housing Growth, Top-Ranked Schools, And More  📉 Fewer Cash Sales in Charlotte 34% of Charlotte-area homes purchased in 2024 were bought with cash, down from 36.6% in 2023, data shows.  Cash buyers — many of them investors — are pulling back after going on a pandemic-era shopping spree. Firefighting is more of a passion than it is a job, at least for two of my uncles whom I’ve always greatly respected. Today, on International Firefighters Day, it is my honor to recognize Capt. Flower Mart - May 2-3, 2025Flower Mart was founded in 1911 by the Women’s Civic League, an organization formed to advocate for better living conditions in the City of Baltimore. A focal point of the original market was to encourage flower, plant, and vegetable gardening in the yards of homes and vacant lots—thereby making them green. The Women’s Civic League managed the event for almost ninety years. Along the way the festival’s signature Lemon Stick treat was introduced—which is made by inserting a porous peppermint stick used as a “straw” into a halved lemon to suck the juice out of a halved lemon—sweety and tangy—and very refreshing. With the formation of the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, and its role in managing the Washington Monument and the park squares of Mount Vernon Place, in ...
