Got into San Francisco on Tuesday early evening, and WHERE to eat?   I like to Google the restaurants nearby and see what the reviews are like. This trip was no different, and I found a few restaurants that could make the cut, but one stood out more.   House of Prime Rib had so many reviews, and was only 4 blocks from my hotel.   I asked the concierge if the area was safe to walk at night, and he said absolutely!    Well, have to say, there is a wonderful place in Denver I go for prime rib and is very reasonable.   This restaurant in San Francisco was PACKED, and I had to wait for an hour to get seated (I had no reservations), I much prefer my location at home.r   It was good, but not GREAT.

❄️ Will It Snow or Not? How to Be Ready (and Actually Enjoy It)Every winter, we all ask ourselves the same question:“Is it really going to snow… or just rain?”Forecasts flip-flop, the grocery store suddenly runs out of milk and bread, and everyone waits to see if schools or work will close. And in our area, just a few degrees can mean the difference between a light dusting, icy roads, or a full-on snow day.The truth is, we can’t control the weather, but we can be ready for it and even have a little fun along the way. 😁🌨️ Why Snow Is So Hard to PredictEven meteorologists admit that snow is tricky. A tiny change in temperature, timing, or precipitation type can make all the difference. One forecast might promise eight inches, another might predict rain.So here’s my advice: plan for snow, ...

Wordless Wednesday…But, They’re So Cute Larry and I always have unshelled, unsalted, roasted peanuts in our pockets. We don’t dare step out of our back door without at least a few of them. The menagerie in our backyard has a few resident squirrels who love Casa Streib’s buffet.  Today is Squirrel Appreciation Day   As soon as we step out our back door, or they hear the garage door opening when we drive up…there they are. We used to have one who waited for us on our fence for his daily peanut as we walked from the garage to the back door.  We also have squirrels at Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve and Meyer Park, where we walk. One in particular at Meyer Park is called Mr. No-Tail for obvious reasons. Mr. No Tail knows how to squirrel it away. When we see him on Sundays, he recognizes us and ...

Gary’s radio career started with getting paid $500 per semester at Wartburg College at KWAR FM..With cheap equipment and big dreams, he would try to imitate what he heard on fast paced rock stations. He had confidence, enthusiasm, and most importantly, a voice that sounded better in his head than it probably did in real life.At that time he had an interest to be a TV sports reporter. But after an internship at KCRG TV9, he doubled down on the radio dream. It was more fun. TV was writing and carrying around heavy cameras. Radio was theater of the mind with personality.  As it turned out. Future Fox sports anchor Curt Menafee was the next intern after Gary at the Cedar Rapids TV station. Talk about talent! GARY was still wondering if HE had any.Gary was heard up and down the dial on thre...

I would like to take a moment to personally thank the meth cooks and tweakers of the world for turning a perfectly innocent decongestant into something that now requires more paperwork than a mortgage application. Once upon a time — gather ‘round, kids — you could walk into a pharmacy, grab a big ol’ bottle of 100 or even 200 Sudafed tablets, and be on your merry, well‑ventilated way. A golden era of sinus freedom now lost to history.   But not anymore. Oh no. Now, if I want to breathe through my own nostrils, I have to meekly approach the pharmacy counter like I’m requesting access to a restricted government bunker. They want ID. They want signatures. They want to scan things. I’m half‑expecting them to ask for my passport, a note from my mother, and maybe a sworn affidavit promising ...

Well another set of tires bit the dust and dust is an appropriate word. Northwest AZ has a lot of dust, dirt. I don't think Queen in this song, Another One Bites the Dust, was singing about tires. This month my annual replacement of tires for my 4x4 Ford Ranger again was realized. Traveling the dirt roads here in Golden Valley, AZ, Kingman, Chloride, Dolan Springs, Meadview, White Hills and Yucca do take a toll on tires.  Between the ruts, the rocks, vegetation (lots of large sharp thorns) and the sandy washes, the tires do take a beating and they do keep ticking for a year. Each time I buy new tires, I do buy the tire warranty that runs about $20 a tire. This warranty will repair flat tires at no charge and replace tires that need replacing for whatever the reason.  My $2,500 truck main...

Journal Entry for January 21, 2026 COMIC RELIEF WITH WISE WORDSA Centenarian is anyone who lives to be anywhere in between 100 and 109 years old. Many centenarians learned that laughter is the best medicine. If you're old enough to remember George Burns, you might recall that George, an American comedian lived to be 100 years old. He used humor to entertain his audience and wise words to make people think and laugh. Good old George never made anyone feel uncomfortable. When he got on stage, he got the crowd started with laughter. He could begin a conversation by saying, "It's nice to be here. When you're 100 years old, it's nice to be anywhere!"  ALL PROFESSIONALS GO THROUGH TRANSITIONSGeorge and his wife Gracie were an old vaudeville act who made people laugh for a living. When times c...

Journal Entry for Tuesday, 1/20/2026 The beautiful Texas Flag was taken outside of Subaru where I had my 30,000 mile service check-up. And I'm feeling good.  In case you didn't know, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is confined to a wheelchair. It doesn't stop him from getting around and working hard for the people in Texas. Despite being paralyzed from the waist down, he is supported by his family and faith. While jogging in his 20s, a tree fell on him leaving him confined to being in a wheelchair for life. He claims through that difficult time he learned an invaluable lesson: "Life is defined not by the challenges we face, but how we respond to those challenges."  Recent accomplishments by Governor Greg Abbott: The largest school choice program in the nation, empowering Texas parents to dec...

How many times do our clients say -- You live such a great life!    How many times have our clients told us they want to get their real estate license to follow in your footsteps?Did they miss that day you had to help a homeowner move some of their furniture to the garage to help the "flow of the home" look better?  How about the time you did the open house and saw no one cleaned the back slider that the dog slobbered all over?    I remember one time my client called after he got a showing and said he didn't make the bed or pick up his dirty clothes.   OH MY, YES, I went over and helped him!Well, this video sums it up --- the life of a REALTOR isn't always glamorous! Yes, after years of hard work, it can put some dollars into your retirement fund and can make some trips, or even move to...

When I started thinking about moving, I had lots of questions, and luckily Google and Reddit has helped answer most of them!EarthquakesThere are active faults existing in Mainland Portugal, and some are very well known, but others still remain to be discovered.    The last devastating one happened in 1531 in Lisbon in the morning between 4 and 5 o'clock.   This earthquake and tsanami resulted in approximately 30,000 deaths. While Portugal does experience seismic activity, major earthquakes are rare.  YAY!How about Tsunamis - The last two earthquakes and tsunamis happened in February 1969 and January 1980 in the Azores killing some 80 people altogether.TornadoesTornadoes have been reported all over the Country, except on the NE mountainous area, and most have been near the coast.   These ...

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today.Change has never been easy. It takes persistence and determination, and requires all of us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. As we honor Dr. King today, let’s draw strength from his example, and do our part to build on his legacy.

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Favorite DessertsOne of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s favorite desserts, often served after Sunday dinners or upon his return from major events like receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, was a unique, creamy, retro gelatin mold his family called "Quilly".  What is "Quilly"?Created by his mother, Alberta Williams King, "Quilly" was a favorite childhood dish that, according to family, was named because it was garnished with spikes of thin sugar wafers, resembling a porcupine's quills. Ingredients: It is a molded, chilled dessert consisting of whipped cream, chopped almonds, crumbled coconut macaroons, mini marshmallows, and a can of fruit salad (often fruit cocktail) set in gelatin, flavored with vanilla or rum extract.Significance: It was considered a "cool, gentle dess...
