Greetings Evelyn Johnston,
A google search for "copper theft Elkhart" revealed crimes unrelated to Air Conditioner Vandalism. In areas of the country where #ACCages are a must have security investment the practise of having a cage installed is a common practise.
With that being said, YEAH, you haven't seen one :-). Different companies install them in different ways. West End Cages are secured by buring 2ft Legs into the grond, either over or directly through concrete padding. The legs are then back-filled with mixed concrete.
So, is it attached? Ah...not to the house. Is it removable? Technically if you're able to lift a 225 lb solid steel box after disengaging 2ft legs that have been buried in the ground and back-filled in concrete, you can remove it.
Below are pictures of what the units look like before and after installation.

Bill Dandrige,
TECHNICALLY I would imagine they could be considered Personal Property as our #ACCages are painfully capable of being UN-installed. Just wondering if some sort of Personal Property Exhibit/Bill of Sale ever came into play with home sales.
Thank you for responding!

I think that it would be qualified as a fixture, as would convey without expense...
