Fireflies Labor Day benefit Make plans this weekend to visit Tonto Village from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1 for our annual Labor Day benefit for the Hellsgate Fire Department presented by its auxiliary, the Fireflies. The event will be held at the Tonto Village fire station, one mile in on the Control Road off E. Highway 260. This in other words is about 14 miles outside of Payson, Arizona. There will be barbecued pork sandwiches, coleslaw, beans, fresh corn on the cob and a drink available for $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. A bake sale at the event will feature cakes, fruit pies, cookies, breads, jams and more. The big raffle drawing for a chain saw and queen-size quilt will also be held. Horses seem to love the snow. Even with warm barns to escape the snow, horses seem to love to be out in the white stuff. They will often play and romp around and act as if they really do enjoy the snow. I took a few pictures of the snow at "The Ranch At Diamond Point" Did anyone else get any good pictures? Pine is an attractive, small town about 15 miles North of Payson, on Hwy. 87. Pine is home to many antique shops, craft shops, and art galleries. On Holiday weekends in the Summer the Pine-Strawberry Arts & Crafts Guild features a craft show on the grounds of the old school house, with many and varied booths selling all sorts of interesting items. The shops along the highway are open, some people put up booths along the street. People park wherever they can, and walk up and down the street looking at everything. It makes for a very ferstive time. This coming weekend the show is 8 to 5 on Aug. 3oth (Sat.) and 8 to 4 on Sunday, Aug. 31st.
