The Knolls Pool opens Saturday -It looks like the weather will cooperate just in time for our opening day at The Knolls pool this Saturday, what a great way to kick off the Memorial weekend, temperature in the low 80s, burgers and brats on the pool grill, margeritas with neighbors at one of the picnic tables, the smell of coconut scented sunscreen fills the air, kids laughing and splashing and having a good old time. I cant wait. I have been the committee chairperson for our pool for the past 10 years, all three of my boys have grown up playing in the water and excelling in High school diving because of the neighborhood pool. The Knolls annual Memorial weekend Tennis tournament - This has been a long standing tradition in The Knolls, to many of the residents it is the kickoff to summer, getting the dust off the racket and reconnecting with your court buddies, the weather has been very rainy, if fact as of today we have officially broken into the top 10 wettest months on record for Denver, Fortunately the forecast for Memorial weekend is mid 70s and sunshine. The tennis courts are one of the most popular and well used amenities in The Knolls. Competitive play actually started the first week of May but the 26th annual Memorial Weekend tennis tournament is open to all Knolls residents, a great way to meet neighbors. The City of Centennial hit its 10 year anniversary back in February of this year, no this is not the City that James A Michener wrote about in his fictional Colorado novel titled "Centennial", but it does have a few similarities. The 5 Stages of Home Ownership - OK, I may have fudged this a little, the first stage is more the first step to home ownership rather than actually owning a home, the other stages are not set in stone, but will apply to most people at various stages of their adult lives. Stage 1- your first rental, most likely will happen a year or two out of High school, whether or not you attend college probably does not matter, if you decided not to attend college you probably wanted to be on your own sooner than later, got a job, because your number one priority was to move out. Enjoying the rainy day in Denver With 300+ days of sunshine these very rare Seattle-like days when it rains all day long are a welcome change. A typical rainstorm in Denver lasts about 15-20 minutes and then the sun comes back out. The biggest drawback is that with the annual spring run-off from the snow-packed Rocky Mountains, we may see more water than we are used to and get some small areas of flooding. I have been in Denver 50 years and only twice in that period do I recall any flooding, once when I was 5 or 6 the entire downtown Denver area along the South Platte River flooded, the rail yards and bridges where my father worked were completely washed out, in fact the current location of the Pepsi Center and Elitch Gardens would be full of water, had they been here during that time. ... 05/11/2011

Another Reason Why I love living in The Knolls in Centennial, CO Yesterday was the annual Knolls cleanup day. The Knolls is a subdivision of 399 homes that were built in the early 70s and is run by a group ofneighbors that volunteer for various board positions. Every Spring The Knolls has a neighborhood cleanup Day, a group of neighbors will gather at the clubhouse for instructions on what needs to be cleaned up, cleaned out, repaired or replaced. Typically 30-50 homeowners will show up with their tools, trucks and good neighborly attitudes to do whatever they can to keep the value of this great neighborhood strong. The Swedish furniture store, Ikea, is coming to Centennial, Colorado.  We have all been watching the construction as we pass by Interstate 25 between Dry Creek Road and County Line Road.  They are set to open this fall, and Colorado is excited to be one of the 38 stores in the United States. This store will have 415,000 square feet of wonderful SHOPPING and a 550 seat restaurant.  They are also using solar panels on the roof which makes Ikea, Centennial the first US Ikea store to integrate geothermal components into their heating and cooling system.
