Looking to take a walk or do some fishing along the old 7 mile bridge in Marathon Florida? Well...you are going to have to wait...until 2017!Access ramps on each side of the Knight's Key parking lot were closed at the beginning of July 2016 to begin performing a much needed update. The repairs include repaving the parking lot entrance, installing new retaining walls along the bridge access ramp, rebuilding bridge access from the parking lot, picnic pavilions, and seawall, and installing pedestrian access ramps on each side of the parking lot.Though all pedestrian access will be closed while the project is going on, it will not affect any travel lanes. Fourth Fireworks Frighten Furry Friends...Easy for you to say! But seriously, please don't forget that your pets are terrified of fireworks this July 4th. Each year in Marathon, Florida one of the highlight events of the summer, is the annual 4th of July fireworks and festivities at Sombrero Beach. Families begin the day with the patriotic parade at 10:30AM and then head to Sombrero Beach on Sombrero Beach Road at mile marker 50, oceanside. This is a full day event with food, crafts and entertainment. And, everyone knows that statistics can be manipulated base upon the parameters used.One of the questions I am routinely asked by my Florida Keys real estate investors is "How much are properties appreciating in the Florida Keys". You can make that answer very simple by looking at the market as a whole, which is what the chart below is displaying. The Florida Keys as a whole is up 10% for the past 12 months and Marathon, the 33050 zip code, was up 8.5%. To be conservative, when I consult with investors, we use a 3-4% average appreciation rate annually.
